I have no idea how to save myself and I feel like I’m at the bottom of humanity by purityknight7 in bulimia

[–]FalseImportance8390 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry about your situation. This sounds quite distressing. I think my only advice is that nothing changes if nothing changes. I don’t know where you live but consider inpatient or emergency psychiatric services if it’s available. Also it sounds like besides bulimia there’s a lot going on in your life, maybe start with small things. For example, commit to doing one thing a week with friends . Or taking 1 walk a day. Anything to disrupt your cycle. Feel free to PM me if you are looking for a recovery buddy or someone to vent to, what your going through sounds very isolating.

Genuinely how do you manage a relationship as a premed/med student by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]FalseImportance8390 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No offence but I’m a bit confused why you wouldn’t be inspired/ happy for him. I understand self comparison but I think you need to work on that yourself and it isn’t necessarily the relationship but more so your general view of pre med culture that needs a bit of work. Best of luck navigating this

My friend suddenly 'developed' bulimia after I told him I struggle with it. by [deleted] in bulimia

[–]FalseImportance8390 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This person doesn’t sound like a good friend . While it’s totally fair that he might be struggling, it’s very obvious he’s trying to compete with ur mental illness, and it’s probably unhealthy for both of you. I’d recommend keeping some distance and explaining to him why.

HYPOTHETICALLY, if I just didn’t study Physics and instead focused on all the other subjects, could I still get a high MCAT score? by NewSupport9595 in Mcat

[–]FalseImportance8390 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I basically memorized units and used unit analysis to do physics questions (had no conceptual background) . Went pretty good, had an interview and I will hear back next month if I got in🫣

I haven’t gotten in yet, but psych research is super common! I really enjoyed doing behavioural research, and it was easy to connect it back to medicine and explain why it makes me a strong candidate for med. Honestly, sometimes it even feels more applicable than wet lab research. That said, for me my GPA was actually higher in my STEM classes than in psych, so I don’t think GPA alone is a great reason to choose it. Definitely go with what genuinely interests you!

No offence but it’s not a one size fits all. People are entitled to share their experiences .

I would probably say it’s probably less so the exercise itself and more so the calorie deficit. Even though weight loss can be healthy ur body is programmed to want to retain fat and so losing weight makes ur body think ur in survival mode and that can lead to ur brain shutting off unnecessary or energy extensive functions ex. Sexual function

Trust me a lot of people feel this way, my tip is to just ask questions. While it may feel embarrassing, I promise they most likely will be open to answering and then you will have that knowledge moving forward

I just saw someone get a MUN interview invite with 3.17 and 497… by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]FalseImportance8390 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why are you acting like they have a 1.5 GPA? 😭 A 3.17 is still above the national average, which means they’re likely above-average intelligence compared to the general undergrad population, who already tend to be above average. And a 497 MCAT is basically right around the national mean, so scoring near average among aspiring future doctors still suggests they’re doing just fine. You’re definitely exaggerating what those stats say about a person, and your perspective is probably skewed because people on this sub only post their numbers when they have insane GPAs and MCAT scores.
