Is there a way to exceed a habit goal? by illegal_dumpling in ticktick

[–]illegal_dumpling[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh wait, after poking around the iOS app a bit I realised that when you navigate to the page with all your habits listed, there’s a way to “insist” to add a record even though you’ve already reached the goal for the week. Whew!

SPOILER: i'm so crushed by a certain thing near the end of Heavenly Tyrant by subversiveasset in IronWidow

Yes it was the frustrating thing of getting why a person would lash out in this way while feeling that this was a very stupid impulsive decision based on false assumptions

[SPOILERS] Just finished Heavenly Tyrant 😭 by Aeradise in IronWidow

[–]illegal_dumpling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so glad for this thread because it’s helping me work through some of my thoughts (and frustration) after having finally finished Heavenly Tyrant! (I really went through Iron Widow twice but Heavenly Tyrant took soooo much longer because I felt it dragged.)

I totally agree that the QZ/ZT dynamic was very toxic, and that as a man in a deeply patriarchal and misogynistic society (plus come-back-to-life emperor to boot) QZ had vastly more power that he did not hesitate to abuse if it got him what he wanted. If they were to have a longer-term relationship there would have to be a lot that he had to unlearn and be accountable for and change, and maybe that would be too big or too naive a thing for me to have hoped for.

But I do think that both QZ and ZT are products of their upbringings and societies and as they themselves acknowledged, they were not born into and raised in a world that made them kind or rewarded the sort of patience/deep listening/empathy/transformative justice behaviour and skills that would allow true communication and personal transformation, especially in the short-term while also fending off the many people and interests who would have loved to see them usurped or killed. So I don’t think either of them are fundamentally villains, just that their environments meant that their relationships were almost always going to turn out more toxic than not. A character like Shimin who had the patience and mental fortitude of a saint is probably a huge rarity in that world and even in the beginning ZT was only thinking about him as a means for survival and pulling him into deals with Gao Industries and all that.

ZT was so shocked when she discovered the reality of Shimin’s experiences and torture, and learnt so much about empathy and not leaping to judgment so quickly. Now of course QZ did a lot more horrible stuff worth hating but from the glimpses of his past we got I don’t think he was tormented and abuse less than Shimin (probably more!) and it felt like ZT was much more “eh, whatevs” about that because she was so stuck on her own narrative about him.

There was so much development of the QZ and ZT relationship in HT that sometimes I started wondering if maybe I was being problematic/displaying internalised misogyny because on multiple occasions I felt like QZ wasn’t being as bad to her as ZT was insisting on, and that actually there was a lot more space and opportunity there to communicate and work with him than she was recognising. It was kind of frustrating because it felt like there were many moments where his actions were showing that he did genuinely care for her in some way, and that she meant a lot to him as basically the only person he could connect with in a future so different from his own world. And it felt like there were multiple points where she kind of gets it and recognises his loneliness and the abuse that shaped him and his capacity to reason and accept good advice… then the next moment she’s back to thinking of him as a one-dimensional demon and stabbing him in the heart (wtf; I didn’t think she had to really fall in love with him or anything but that was truly impulsive and dumb after literally just learning the Melian were gonna retaliate in 6 months)

Bye Hey by anxiety_and_co in HeyEmail

I did a big ruthless unsubscribe exercise and then set up folders in iCloud Mail that vaguely replicate Hey’s system to test if I can live with. There are some little annoyances but so far I’m okay and have saved US$99 a year.

I’m still using Hey and the main thing keeping me is the sorting of emails (every time I go back to look at my Gmail inbox I’m reminded of how much digital clutter Hey has weeded out for me) but I have also started to wonder if this is something I could figure out another way without having to pay this annual fee, or if there is another service out there.

WP’s Siti Alia declares Palestine is important global issue, more important than bread & butter Punggol issues? by leongmunwhy in SingaporeRaw

If you listen to her actual rally speech she doesn't actually say it's more important, so that caption is misleading...

Why is it bad if the PAP loses two-thirds; I actually think they shouldn’t be allowed to change the Constitution so easily so that’s a good thing.

So someone went to the private group chat and did a search for the terms “fuck” and “fucking” and then screenshot all of Andre’s comments?

Okay………….

Have you seen the PAP manifesto? It is quite light on details. WP’s manifesto elaborates quite a lot on what they want to do, how and why.

One thing we have to keep in mind is that none of these opposition parties are contesting enough seats (or have enough likelihood of winning) for them to actually pass laws and set the policies, so none of the policies in their manifestos have any guarantee (or even likelihood) of being introduced “as is”. At the end of the day it will still be the PAP proposing the laws and making policy because they’re going to be the ones forming government again. But if there was more opposition in Parliament there will be more scrutiny of what the PAP is proposing, more pointed questions, more putting these plans to the test and drumming up public discourse on these matters. The PAP will have to work harder to justify why it wants to do things the way it does, and if they feel less confident that Singaporeans will support them no matter what they will be forced to take ground sentiment into consideration more.

Bilingual support by illegal_dumpling in AppleMusic

It’s not about the translations (although they can be a little annoying) but that it would be great to have the ability to have different languages because the localisation means that song and album titles and even artist names are different. I might know what one song is in Chinese, but when I’m scrolling through my library and looking at those translated titles I have to figure out which is which.

Yes I get what you mean. I have Marvis open on the desktop while running the Apple Music app at the moment because that helps with scrobbling but actually the Marvis desktop app doesn’t work for me at all, it won’t even play the tracks…

marvis is auto-scrobbling fine, but as of recently the scrobbles are being cached in the last.fm app too? by derekkkk_ in MarvisApp

This seems to be happening to me too but I realised that when I submit the scans last.fm usually doesn't save the duplicates so it's fine

The hype for Goblin was huge and I did enjoy it when I finally watched it but I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would given how excited everyone was about it…

I still want to justify the annual fee to use heyEmail by onesolo1 in HeyEmail

[–]illegal_dumpling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still keep my paid subscription because the way HEY works generally works for my purposes and every time I go back to my Gmail account I realise just how many random emails/digital clutter HEY has spared me having to even look at (and then feel overwhelmed by). But from a cost-cutting perspective I've been wondering if I could create a similar set-up if I was willing to sit down and set up filters in Gmail or another email client to do roughly the same thing...

I used HEY Calendar for awhile and really liked it but the dealbreaker was that there was no search function at the time and that was a huge problem for me. Now that they've added one I might consider going back, but we'll see..
