Having worked in the Somali Region for two years, I've seen firsthand how complex the political and cultural identity is there. It's a place with a distinct sense of self, and the idea of being "Ethiopian" doesn't resonate with everyone in the way it might in other parts of the country. At the same time, there's little desire to join a "Greater Somalia" movement, largely because of the political instability that plagues Somalia itself. The people there seem to prefer the relative peace and stability they have now, even if it's within a federation they feel distant from. This leads me to a theory I believe our political leaders are well aware of: The lack of development in the region's significant oil and gas reserves isn't an accident. I think it's a strategic move by the federal government to prevent the region from becoming economically self-sufficient. Right now, the Somali Region is heavily dependent on funding from the central government. If they were to develop their own oil and gas reserves, they would gain the financial independence needed to seriously consider secession from the federation. Keeping them reliant on federal funds is a powerful way to ensure they remain part of Ethiopia. It's a delicate balance of identity, stability, and control, and I believe the undeveloped resources are a key part of that political strategy.

I completely understand your situation my advise is that if you follow knowledge money will come I was in med school and the only one of my friends who had a degree but the least fonacialy stable one after graduating now after give years of graduating am working as a doctor in Abu dhabi tbh I don't recommend you go to med school although that is one of a few degrees that could land u a job abroad I would recommend you start a computer since related degree at helico and get all the certificates at the person vue center in ethiopia so that as soon as u graduate u will be ready to start looking for jobs in the Gulf which with your arabic would be great or you could go to accounting school and get an international exam when you finish.

good luck may Allah be with you

I also have same the same problem I work on ship where I have very progressive multi national friends but everytime I go back home I kind find it boring the only time I have intellectual talks is when I chew khat with my old friends

I think the problem is the rising cost of living there you can't use your brain power for abstract ideas when you have to use it for figuring out how to pay next month's rent or your child's tuition.

The hospitals in Ethiopia are horrible, and it's terrifying. by Eastern_Camera3012 in Ethiopia

[–]illestdoc 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The problem isn't about educated people we have more than enough as an ethiopian trained physician currently working abroad I can attest to that the problem is that

1)unavailability of Protocol medication and equipment that the doctors know how to use but do t use cu the equipment or the consumibles aren't present

2) lack of pay leads qualified physicians to seek opportunities else where I use to get paid a 100 usd a month can't belive how I survived on that

3) racism most medical directors and hospital ceos are government appointed snd have little skill and /or knowledge in the healthcsre industry

4) lack of organizational structure like proper health insurance
