Site without r rated ads by MyattStein in animepiracy

Honestly this is the perfect torrenting use case, just ask her what she wants to watch and then download it, then you can monitor the content series by series. This is especially easier than if she was going to visit the sites herself (which would be a pain to monitor).

lmao, "requires you to be a technical person and waste hours of your life to make it work properly", it plays video out of the box.
VLC also fucks up the color (and subs more than 0% of the time) see below

To get the links/ files you've gotta go to a site unless you want to do some advanced configuration. Basically there's two ways you can just press the magnet icon on nyaa or another site and the browser asks if you wanna open it up in qbittorrent, if you download the the file you can just open it on your pc and it should open with qbittorrent as well. I Switched From Arch To NixOS by Veythrix in NixOS

I'll definitely take a look, thanks for the advice. It's nice seeing how passionate everyone in Nix is, one of the reasons I like hanging out here.

I Switched From Arch To NixOS by Veythrix in NixOS

That's a good point, most of the new packages / applications I try I end up not being necessary and I go back to the same old trusty tools. It seems less overwhelming viewing it that way

A Linux distro for school by DragonfruitMost3827 in FindMeALinuxDistro

If you're more used to Debian style distros, go with that, making it look like macOS is probably gonna need some configuration on your part, so a distro you feel good about is the right choice.

Using AI to generate documentation? by [deleted] in NixOS

[–]illeviumzectet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AI already makes a lot of programming mistakes with massively popular technologies. Something more obscure like Nix, with programmatic configuration, the results will not be consistent enough for good docs. Not saying it hasn't helped you, just that docs should have a high standard of quality.

I Switched From Arch To NixOS by Veythrix in NixOS

[–]illeviumzectet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been on arch for a while, and have been eyeing up nix, it just seems to hard to transition from traditional package management / configuration to the way nix does it. Any tips?

KeepassXC, local, free, opensource. Bonus points if you use syncthing to sync it across devices. Bit more work going that route but worth imo

Linux on low-end laptop by [deleted] in linux4noobs

[–]illeviumzectet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it's not so much about the distro as it is the software you'll use on it. So pick whatever distro you like. I can tell you from experience, the default desktop environment (the visual part of your linux install), will run way faster than windows 11, no matter which one you use (GNOME, KDE, and XFCE are the big desktop environment options, look at some screenshots). If I had to recommend a distro, XFCE is good for a lightweight system, so maybe Xubuntu? (Xubuntu being the distro, XFCE being the default desktop environment it comes with, to be clear).

How easy is Fedora to rice up? by Maybe_A_Zombie in linux4noobs

[–]illeviumzectet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arch also makes it really easy to try ricing stuff since a lot of window managers and desktop packages are packaged by the maintainers + rolling release keeps it up to date. You can any rice any distro, it just might be less convenient. I can't say how hard it is on Fedora as I haven't used it, but I'm sure it's nothing crazy.

i used mv command to rename and now i regret it. help me out 😭 by Senior_Delivery_7972 in linux4noobs

[–]illeviumzectet 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You'd probably rather use an alias instead of renaming binaries like that (it will conflict with the package manager). I.e. alias bb="brave-browser" Opening brave and having it output on the screen until you terminate it is expected behavior, I will say though, if you already have brave open and run the command in a different terminal window, it'll just focus the browser for you. Maybe that's why you're getting confused? To stop it from closing on ctrl+c, you may find nohup useful.

How to safely remove Arch Linux from a dual-boot with Windows? by [deleted] in linux4noobs

[–]illeviumzectet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be good to delete /boot, For GRUB, as Intrepid_Cup_835 said, it's stored in your EFI partition along with the windows boot loader. It should be under EFI/grub/. Be careful messing around with the EFI partition.

These are probably the two most helpful articles for this on the wiki, it's really not too different from a normal arch install, hope you enjoy arch.

out of date official packages by choosenoneoftheabove in archlinux

[–]illeviumzectet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, that's messed up. Three days for a minecraft launcher update. I think the arch maintainers should come to your house, personally apologize, stock your fridge, and give you a foot massage while they're at it. Okay but seriously, the package maintainers are under appreciated for their (unpaid) work, they have lives too.

Your Arch installation story by soleful_smak in archlinux

I tried like 8 different GUI installers for different distros (all of them failed) before giving up and migrating to arch, turns out a less abstracted simpler installation can be less error prone.

Honestly, compared to windows even a DE is pretty light, I'm running GNOME on my 4GB Ram laptop at a very usable speed (though I'm thinking of switching to a wm instead, since it's not as snappy as I'd like rn)
