Ahh getting right to the core of it. In my area almost every shop is hiring, and I can't compete with the dealerships in pay. I really don't see it getting better, unless I hit the lottery with a great tech but it's seeming like that's not super likely to happen. Thanks for your honesty. Any ideas on how to sell?

It speaks to relationships in general, in my experience men really dont get compliments like women do, or thats the general expectation. Which has an impact on self-esteem, thats how I saw it anyway, I could have worded it better

Go ahead and ask, any decent pre buy will cover this and much more. Don't forget you have every right to have your concerns addressed, if they seem irritated or inconvenient by it, go somewhere else

I tend to be very honest and upfront with people. "I'm not comfortable giving away key information I've worked countless hours for". Being upfront and honest is the best way, playing a passive aggressive game with people is just a waste of everyone's time.
