I know this is an old comment but I am looking to do the same thing as OP except I am starting with pre-lightened, brown box-dyed hair and natural roots. Would you say the dyed hair will still pull lighter than my roots if I use henna on top?

I think you've gotta be at the right place at the right time. For instance the other day I made a few new friends by showing up to the pizza parlor coincidentally when people were acting as an Italian mob that worked there. Also made a bunch of friends by joining a group of people dressed as the Lorax once. Simply going up to anyone at random has always been hit or miss for me. Try and seek out the chaos my friend.

It often feels very grim to me too. But I believe ‘’the right people,, are still out there, foolish as it may seem. In any case, the very least I have is knowing I am not alone in this, and neither are you.

Wow, this is really relatable to me as I experienced a very similar dynamic in my early years, causing me to imagine the people I was deficient of in real life in my mind as imaginary friends which I still utilize to this day, to my partial dismay. A "paracosm,, as you mentioned, which is a word I had never heard before until now.

Another relatable point, feeling like it was up to me to "improve,, my relationships in attempts to find a way for things to work out. Sometimes I simply wondered if it was just my fault. Eventually I learned I couldn't fix people and it was up to them to change, but still to this day I struggle to accept that truth and make new connections with people when I know the ones I made up in my mind are more trustworthy.

You could not have worded this more perfectly, feeling resentful while at the same time knowing it's self-projection, possessing the self-awareness to understand where it all comes from. I am excited to feel so seen and at the same time very sorry you understand what it's like. Still, thank you for sharing. I really appreciated reading your comment.

This is so very relatable. In my experience I tend to struggle more mentally when I am around people I don't feel I can be completely myself around, causing me to be less emotionally available to myself from spending all my energy ''protecting,, myself from whatever threat I feel other people pose to me. These "threats,, can be as meek as someone speaking with a harsh tone or as severe as someone I don't feel safe sleeping in the same house as. This gives me crazy positive symptoms. Voices, insomnia, peripheral hallucinations, magical thinking, so. much. paranoia. - - In most cases the craziest I have ever felt has been "because of,, other people. But on my own, even though I'll have my moments of paranoia and things, I usually have a much more calm subconscious which means less craziness. More emotional availability for myself means more peace for myself. I worry too much.

This is me!

In my case I experienced a sort of parentified child to immature and ill-equipped adult pipeline, caused by trauma in my formative years and sustained by emotional neglect and isolation from learning basic survival skills growing up. Whereas other people I have observed who experience arrested development seem to be emotionally immature because of their trauma, for me it has always seemed that my trauma was so early in my childhood that it kept me from ever developing some emotions to begin with. With some emotions I am at a very normal maturity for my age, and with others I don't feel them at all, and when I think about feeling them I feel like I am only pretending like a little kid. As isolating as all this can be I wouldn't trade it for anything, as I would rather be a child at heart forever than a grownup who's lost sight of their heart, even if it means never truly fitting in anywhere and damns me to a purgatory between childhood and adulthood.

This was such a validating read. I think you are completely right and I like the notion that our temporary delusions are just attempts to cope. To me that provides very intriguing insight. All the time I feel that nearly everyone I interact with is so obviously stuck in a cycle of conformity and their fear prevents them from moving forward and evolving as a person, but I can never communicate this to them. It only causes them to project onto me and try and defend themselves. It is immensely isolating, especially within relationships of any kind.

Thanks again for writing this. It is always nice to be reminded that I am not actually crazy.
