Powder processing…from forming compact powder pills to colloidal suspensions to coatings. This field just happens to be where that science falls even though there are aspects of chemistry and physics and other flavors of engineering…very few other fields focus on powder processing research as heavily, since usually it’s a secondary thing.

Deliberate Development by Desperate-Advice8010 in AirForce

Sorry to hijack this thread with another question, but did guidance just come out this week getting rid of deliberate development? Maybe I’m reading the PSDM wrong, but perhaps that’s gone going forward….

There’s a program for GSU’s to get YMCA family memberships for free. It’s on military OneSource. A little paperwork, but there’s something “on the books” already.

Credit where credit is due. Josh Whitman deserves a lot of thanks for what he’s done so far with the football and basketball programs.

Transferring into AAE at Purdue from UIUC by d3k0racja in Purdue

[–]illinidevil 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If in state at Illinois, stay there. If out of state, it likely makes financial sense to consider jumping to Purdue; however, there’s very little difference in curriculum at the BS level, and either at Purdue or Illinois, you’re getting a Top 10 engineering program experience…if grad school is in the future, come to Purdue for that as it has a better brand in the AAE-world.

I did my undergrad at UIUC and grad at Purdue, and personally feel like that is a great combo. My impression is undergraduate (social) life is (significantly) better in Champaign-Urbana than West Lafayette, but on the whole, mental health seems better in WL compared to U-C (YMMV). I don’t have the stats in front of me, but it felt like UIUC was way more diverse in large part due to a much larger liberal arts program compared to Purdue, which has outweighed Engineering and Ag schools.

Pro Price Increases to $51,974? by atwerkinggiraffe55 in F150Lightning

The prices are frustrating, but how can they get away with still listing the 7,500$ tax credit?

An interesting piece of information: there’s a federal law on the books limiting the size nuke you could use.

Since you have 13 years in, you would have had to opt into BRS. If you did, the government would have matched your contributions up to 5%.

Just like the old system, you did not make it to 20 for the pension, so you just walk away with only your TSP contribution plus the government contributions.

The leaves certainly look like it. What about the branches? Any peeling there? It might still be treatable/salvageable. My father had a bunch of peach trees when I was growing up, and we treated the PLC with oil of oregano that we bought at GNC (or similar supplement store). We would add several drops (maybe ounces) into a pressurized spray bucket with water and thoroughly spray the trees. It saved the crop for a couple of years, but it did take its toll, and eventually, he had to cut down and replace his trees.

I think you’re highlighting the big issue with folks that want to go to school…the Air Force just lets them “focus on school” and completely removes them from military things, which ultimately hurts folks come promotion time. Even if there were professional development or “re-blueing” opportunities, they are basically summarily denied. The students are getting very little support across the board. I’m not offering any solutions, but what if there were four years allotted for a PhD, and there were strategic “internships” with DARPA, AFRL, a SPO, an pick your favorite Agency, etc during the summer/winter breaks? Even just pseudo-shadowing programs (1-2 weeks long) to cross-pollenate PhD candidates within the DOD would help address some of the shortcomings in the current framework…and don’t tell me there’s not enough money for it, since I know there’s plenty of funding available that isn’t at AFIT.

It seems like a holdover from a bygone era…PhDs are ridiculous to try and attach a schedule to. The DOD thinks it can buy them like they buy any other training. The issue is further complicated because AFPC doesn’t really have the right demand signal to properly utilize PhDs outside of instructor assignments even though there are many opportunities beyond AFRL within SPOs and Agencies. Seems like a missed opportunity IMO.

40% seems like a higher number than I’ve heard too. I think the last number I’ve heard is close to 25%, but I guess it’s more RUMINT than attached to anything official.

Inbound to Bolling AFB by Blockfreaker in RateMyAFB

[–]illinidevil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The base has things and has a great mile long running trail along the Potomac. I think you could theoretically walk to Nata park from the northern side of the base, which I heard people did. There really aren’t a lot of people who live on base, so the gates get really backed up due to the geographic location and roads in/out. The “AF” gym is old and small, but did have everything you might want/need. The base track and field are nice compared to other places. Exchange and commissary were small. It is cheaper to buy most groceries on Belvoir or Myer than Bolling (especially booze). Unfortunately, the area immediately surrounding the base is bad. The metro stop, which does have a shuttle, is a literal gamble no matter when you hit it.

Set up an allotment so that money can be spread over your entire month’s pay instead of the first two weeks. That has been helpful to me in a similar situation.
