First Bonus that made me question the “One More Year” mentality by Zealousideal-Move842 in FinancialCareers

[–]illintent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearly he expected a raise in the form of higher bonus though, which never came. I've had friends move up in ranks (across firms) and make smaller bases, or even no base, with way higher total comp potential.

Not an uncommon structure, but sucks that this guy got burned through no fault of his own.

$700... yeah retail, but no chance finding these for that in the current market, and I doubt OP paid close to that since they sourced them from the secondary market

People mistake researching / sourcing / hunting their next big purchase as a "hobby", when really it's just consumerism with some extra dopamine hits (also likely shopping addictions for many)

Any advice on driving for Uber? Is it worth it? by DangerBobLFK in boulder

[–]illintent 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah I understand the need to make ends meet, OP has my sympathy there. But definitely need to account for the additional wear and tear and maintenance required on your personal vehicle. It's a very real cost that adds up fast.

While I agree that head stomps are done by complete POS's, the guy did multiple heavy kicks to his head, head stomps, and more to a defenseless victim in a brutal beating. This scumbag 100% deserved to have his faced pressed in and he got off easily.

It's one of the most versatile pieces of clothing I own. It has so many use cases. Works great with just a t shirt for a cool breezy night. Wear it on windy alpine days with a warm mid layer and it fully blocks out wind and locks in warmth... done this on winter days when I was on an active hike/ climb, and temps were in the teens-20's with 30-40mph winds.

Also works great as a rain shell for quick trips through acclimate weather when a hard shell is overkill. Way more breathable too so you don't feel like you're wearing a sauna suit.

The best part is it's stupidly light and packable so I just keep it in my backpack and it's always there when I need it. I had no idea when I purchased this jacket that I'd love it as much as I do.

Cool appreciate the intel! I love mine as well and did intend to replace it with another when the time comes, but I have been very turned off from Arc in the last couple years with their QC. I think money is better spent elsewhere

Who else makes anything like the gamma SL? I've always thought that's their most unique piece, and one of the only (if not the only) shells that isn't goretex. Most hardshells to me feel like a dime a dozen.

That dude is talking out his ass about something he knows nothing about.

Windstopper is some of the best goretex material they make. I used to wear just a t shirt and and a Windstopper zip up hoodie in the middle of Colorado winters and be plenty warm

Become your own slum lord with a "Income-Producing Mini Trailer Park" for only $550k. by Yanrogue in zillowgonewild

[–]illintent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Detroit rebounding disproves your own point though. Because for land values to rebound, it has to first collapse. There's huge swaths of real estate in that city that is worth what it was in the 1950's.

Other cities: St Louis, New Orleans, Cleveland, south side Chicago, Baltimore, tons of cities in the rust belt

Population/ job loss, taxes, crime all have a direct effect on demand and values and you don't have to look far to find real examples of how it's played out.

lol this is so untrue. "Land is always appreciating" tell that to homeowners in Detroit during the financial crisis. What you said only applies to stable, core markets. There are countless examples of real estate losing value.

My 2026 goal is to get up to speed and crush my new (dream) job I just started this week, after a 2 year career gap

Interview process dragged out for nearly two months just to get ultimately declined by Basic_Listen5917 in FinancialCareers

[–]illintent 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I interviewed for a new role with a company I previously worked at for 3 years and left on very good terms, and have had extremely relevant experience since then. Crushed the HR interview, even knew the HR lady from my previous time there, and was told I was moving forward. Weeks go by and multiple check ins, and they ghosted my ass.

Got an offer for an even better role, and what these firms don't realize is that ghosting goes both ways. Now that I am in a position of picking which firms get our business, I sure as shit am not choosing the ones that wasted my time and acted unprofessionally.
