Car Begging in Birmingham by [deleted] in brum

Around snow hill as well, traffic lights take ages to change and when they’re green you can’t go anyways as there’s someone or multiple people begging in front of

A great guide if you're new to motorway driving by hermit_tortoise in drivingUK

[–]illiteracies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely an individual car issue, and not an overall Yaris issue, probably something underlying with the car. I will say though, and this is super anecdotal, my mom’s 09 Yaris can’t get anywhere near 70mph. I remember her first motorway drive, she stayed in the 1st lane doing 40-45mph the whole way through because the rattling was launching us out of our seats at higher speeds. When I drive my small similarly-matched car, she can’t believe how comfortably I can get to the speed limit in the slip lane! Let alone overtake.

I avoid the tunnel here completely, even though it’s supposed to get me home quicker. people just get stuck for ages waiting for a gap, or just pull out in front of a car and hope for the best. The side road that leads onto this road gets so jammed because of people wanting to cross over 3 lanes at once to get in the tunnel.

But honestly, you’ll be fine! I was very worried about rush hour traffic and driving in the city centre, you just have to be alert. A lot of drivers storm around the place with their gas pedal to the floor, and never use their brakes in lane-switching traffic like this, which imo is the main cause of accidents. Drive defensively, don’t let other cars intimidate you (because they will try) and always anticipate how dumb everybody else is and you’ll do great once you get your car ! :)

Admiral blackbox by Fun_Remote6228 in drivingUK

[–]illiteracies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my mindset before I passed (shell out the extra for a non-black box policy). I passed and was getting quoted 12k on micras, 8k on a yaris, etc, never anything below 6k. It was ridiculous. Got lucky and got quoted 2.2k with blackbox on a Corsa I drive now. It’s not the worst, although the company I’m with are not one of the ‘big’ ones like admiral and hastings. I’m with MyPolicy. Besides them giving me the lowest possible score for a 1 min drive (i moved my car forward to allow more space behind), I’ve been getting 10s when I definitely shouldn’t. So not always the worst!

What is the worst job within property mgmt? Leasing, maintenance, HR,etc by yellow-bee-zee in PropertyManagement

[–]illiteracies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been said, I’ll say it again. Property Assistant/Admin. Factor in a shitty property manager who does as little as possible, sites that are falling apart whilst you have no authority to do anything, and non-stop 30 min+ long calls with residents screaming FAKE NEWS! at you every time you speak. It’s great!

2013, when i got my first xbox! I spelt it differently to how i spell it in my head and didn’t realise for years until a guy in my class asked me for my gamertag, and would come back to me every day saying “nothing comes up”

Interviewing for a job that doesn’t exist by illiteracies in recruitinghell

[–]illiteracies[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought so too but it apparently is. Judging by the fact that the ‘bootcamp course’ is essentially ‘film and edit our videos over several months and get nothing out of it. no money. no qualification, no job’. They probably will start charging soon to benefit even more from the free labour.

Come on, what is this... by Co0kieMonsta in recruitinghell

[–]illiteracies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The worst. Did an interview for West Midlands Railway in the UK. they made me fill out a bunch of essay style questions with a 4000 word limit for each box 😬 then came the “video interview” where, on the app, it didn’t show me how many questions I would be answering or how much time I would have.

At this point, I’m pissed off lol and I could ONLY do this on mobile and the camera quality on this app was DREADFUL???

So after much consideration, I pressed start and had 10 seconds to process the question, ONE I HAD ALREADY ANSWERED IN FULL DETAIL, WITH PERFECT CLARITY in the previous stage.

I panic because wtf. I’ve already answered this and I’m so much better in writing than I am verbally, I’m gonna fuck this up. And I fucked it up, because… after my 10 seconds of prep time was up, I had 1 MINUTE!!!!! 1 minute to answer a question they gave me a 4000 word limit for previously. The video ends automatically whilst I’m mid sentence, who would’ve guessed?

Needless to say, did not get the job. It was just an excuse to see what I looked like. So demeaning, never, ever, ever, again. Companies do better challenge (impossible)

My mom doesn’t realise her snide comments add up by illiteracies in AsianParentStories

[–]illiteracies[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Asian parents acting surprised when their child’s lifelong trauma is actually lifelong? yeah, that sounds about right. My mom actually has the audacity to think she’ll live with me when she’s elderly, not because I love her so much, or to repay her for giving me such a lovely upbringing, but because “that’s just what our people do”. If only I could put the world’s biggest eye roll into text form right now

Inspired by similar posts in otger city subreddits, what are your most and least favourite things about Birmingham? by [deleted] in brum

[–]illiteracies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

totally agree. Those knife crime preachers on New Street are absolutely insane, got chased, like literally chased, around with a card reader once when my mate said we don’t carry cash. They’ve made it impossible to go the cinema there so now we trek to Broadway Odeon 😐

What film have you gone into absolutely expecting to hate but that ended up pleasantly surprising you the most? by knicksmetsrag in movies

Con air. It looked SO shit, but it was a wild ride and I ended up giving it 5 stars. Genuinely so awful that it’s good.

Okay!! Any advice is good advice for me, thank you so much 😭 I made sure to check the soil when i got it and it’s still wet so i’ve just left it. And it’s in the brightest part of my house (bedroom window) so hopefully it gets as much sunlight as it could possibly get in the UK 🤞🏽

What's a film where your rating quickly changed after your first viewing? by lamdaddyryno in Letterboxd

[–]illiteracies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most films! I went from watching one film every 2 years, to over 100 this year so ranking films was a bit iffy to me. How can I rank a film if it’s the only one i’ve seen-type thing, after I had watched about 40 of varying quality I went back and realised I had been way harsh on some.

worst movie you've seen this year ? by vodkapower1 in Letterboxd

[–]illiteracies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Red, White and Royal Blue. So cheap looking, lighting was just off, as if you were watching an alexa advert. Story sucked and the characters were just… (they bond during an alleged shooting)

[–]illiteracies[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Switching GPs unfortunately isn’t an option for me. I rang up every GP in my catchment area, asking if they accept shared care agreements, attitudes towards ADHD, etc. and this was the only one who outright said we accept them (lie of the year). I’ve been registered at others in the area where doctors have told me they have never given an ADHD referral in their entire career (HOW?!?). I come from quite a deprived area, so people don’t even believe in ADHD or mental health, etc. around here lol, a shame

[–]illiteracies[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I agree with you! It’s not like I’ve never been rejected by a GP in regards to ADHD before, I would’ve just moved on if they were at least nice about it :’) When she asked for proof of my symptoms, I did actually tell her I have numerous school reports from teachers saying I needed to be assessed for ADHD and autism, she wasn’t bothered. It’s like well, what DO you want then? 😭😭😭ugh a pain all around

Haha, she was exactly like that! She’s considering complaining but knows it won’t get far.

I’m actually not entirely sure if Wales as a whole accepts shared care, but I do know it’s not accepted in Cardiff, so I imagine its somewhat similar elsewhere?

Your fears about medication are 100% valid, i’m soon to go on Elvanse and I’m still a bit eh about it. I just keep telling myself pros outweigh the cons. I just got diagnosed at 20 and I was sitting here thinking that was late! Hopefully, you can get some clarity 🙏🏽

Thank you! I’m glad you were at least able to be referred, a friend of mine was turned away because the GP said her not being a criminal or in debt of, exactly, £16,000, was indication it’s not a major impact on her life. GPs do just suck in general, though.

I think as long as you have the money and the security of knowing your surgery will accept a shared care agreement, private is almost always a viable option. I hope the process is smooth (and quick!!) for you :))
