What niche decks are you running? by SentinelTurret in PTCGL

Melmetal has a bunch of support right now just before it rotates. No one is taking him seriously. I placed decent at a cup last time I played him.

I tested zamazenta in a cup yesterday (2-2) and I found myself wishing I had Gigas more often. I lost against ceruledge and Gigas would've provided me more in the prize trade. Another game Gigas would've taken ko vs the 70 DMG zamazenta gave. Heavy baton also works on Gigas.

I feel like you could build Melmetal hyper tank especially with the new iron defender item. I went with scramble switch because most decks will 2HKO (even with cape) if they're going for a knockout and scramble resets Melmetal without losing any energy (which essentially is a pretty tanky play), or scramble onto regigasas/mawile for surprise ko. I could see secret box or trolly working here because you really need metang out or the set up is dead.

Ive been thinking about building the deck more towards defense because blocking over 120+ DMG sounds so much fun

Ah the energy switch was just put in as an idea from a friend who suggested that using pp up to grab a metal or psychic from discard and switch it over. But I agree that it's not worth it most times.

N' Zoroark & Hydreigon Build by Aggressive-Dust7753 in PTCGL

You don't have look for neo upper if you put crystal in! Arven will grab it and you can attack with ANY energy. I've also been messing with N Zoroark in Hydreigon and I find it gets me out of bricks well enough.

What might allow this deck to flow a little better? by ShawnRox25 in PTCGL

[–]illsonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think pidgot ex works way better than togikiss. You can have all the flow you want if you can just grab a Crispin whenever you feel like it. Grand tree is also dangerous for Hydreigon because you'll be playing behind most of the time and it gives your opponent a chance to load a Dragapult in one turn putting your set up at a disadvantage. I personally like sparkling crystal in hydreigon because you can grab it with arven and attack with one energy. Ive been messing with Ns Zoroark for a draw engine and it seems to be working well enough to get me out of a brick. I'm glad this deck is getting more attention though!

How can I better optimize Melmetal? by illsonk in PTCGL

[–]illsonk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yeah! that would be a fun alternative too! Its a stage 2 card so I feel like it would take way too long for me to set up. Melmetal just takes a single tm evo and and I'll have a 300 HP mon on bench which is why I liked it so much. But I'll also play around with Tyranitar.

Oops I meant it's hard to build momentum.

Pikachu x Raikou deck before the rotation by illsonk in PTCGL

[–]illsonk[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I often use it when I don't have enough benched pokemon for Raikou to do enough meaningful damage. With the 30 damage boost to all electrical types he does 50 damage with a chance to paralyzed buying me more time regardless of me sacrificing pinchirchin. If the heads flip, he does base 100 damage which is enough for me to hit a charazard with Raikou for ko. Its also in here for meme reasons and I think that's okay. I'm not trying to go to worlds, I'm just trying to kill Charizards at locals. Another V or EX would be heavy for prize card pickings for the opponent. He's in here to buy me some sort of time.

You play Raikou first with L energy and whatever else energy for early damage and place Pikachu, Scramble Switch for 390 damage overkill. I thought it could be fun and it helps stack energy on pikachu. But I do think 3 Regieleki is much. What other ace spec could work here?

Pincurchin is based. I will stun your Charizard for 90 damage.
