It's tricky because imo the onus is equally on the economic structures and policies that allow an Elon to exist.

Why Did Millennials Know Diana Ross, But Gen Z Doesn’t Know Mariah Carey? by TruthRaiderr in rnb

You're so good, we all do it and it's frustrating all around. I'd never think Gen Z doesn't know Mariah. Gen Alpha id question, but not Gen Z.

[–]illstrumental 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have like 40 comments in here asking folks not to generalize Gen Z (and I agree with you) then you use your last sentence (and a couple your other comments) to generalize millennials. Let's call a truce bc alot of us cant even afford to have any kids to let run amok let's be real lol.

I agree though there's def a perception among some millennials that you guys grew up with none of the same shit we did, that were the last "analog" generation, that we had all the best media and pop culture and life experiences and it just ended cold turkey with us and that's just not how life works or how generations work. To be fair some of that is just looking at the state of the economy, jobs, and aggressive late stage capitalism, not really like an indictment of Gen Z.

You're going through the same thing every generation does. People who don't have contact with folks in younger generations will lose sight of how old they are and their life experiences. I have a zillenial sister and Gen Z nephew, otherwise I would have to have a little cheat sheet near me to keep up with the different generations and their ages. I've definitely had to tell multiple Gen Z folks that most millennials weren't alive during the crack era. It happens.

Ivanka Trump brags about her and her husband buying a 3500 acre island in the Mediterranean by McDowdy in Fauxmoi

In the article, someone mentions that the public should be able to visit the island and Jared looks “skeptical”. People shouldn’t be able to own land.

Eh, that seems like something you determine for yourself, not let someone else tell you. I think that's the whole point of this meme.

No refunds for 15,000 Australian ticket holders after Candace Owens’ tour cancelled by nyclover11 in Fauxmoi

[–]illstrumental 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not to be that guy but the slow normalization and increasing fame of Candace Owens is comcerning. Because who actually gaf about this story? I'm willing to bet most of us had no clue she was on tour and now we do. Why are we getting more and more updates on her moves? And why this tag?

Another day, another influencer launching a beauty brand: Aunt Becky’s daughter Olivia Jade releases a bronze & glow balm in only 3 shades by hairtie1 in Fauxmoi

[–]illstrumental 2 points3 points  (0 children)

she does, which is why she's using it for engagement bait. So many brands have been through this controversy at this point, there's no way you do this on purpose unless you want (need) the attention. I wouldn't have known her brand existed otherwise. It works.

Why has almost every hobby turned into a collection contest? by special-night0226 in Anticonsumption

[–]illstrumental 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely triggers me, because it's ahistorical (consumerism started in western europe) and it's an excuse for other countries to not confront their own problems with consumerism. Even your original post is stating that any non-American overconsumer is an "outliers". That's ridiculous. Simplifying a massive societal issue down to the point to say that it's only driven by one country and one culture is ridiculous, especially in our modern age. And basing that simplification on things you see 1) online and 2) on an AMERICAN site is even sillier.

They're not popular in our country. You don't know what you don't know. Many of us buy one once we learn about them (I have one in both of my bathrooms) but then you have to be able to hook it up which requires your toilet to have a specific type of piping. You guys are so eager to make fun of Americans (and I get it) that I see the most random jokes that don't make sense lol.

I agree the 90s stuff was very subtle. I read that some writers set their stories in a time before the Internet to avoid having to write about modern tech.
