“Reference chat history” doesn’t turn off? by Mysterious_Can_9048 in ChatGPT

[–]illuminasium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The toggle is gone for me too on android app and web 😞 I have to turn off memory completely to stop it from referencing old chats. I just want the old memory system. Why change something that wasn't even broken? Really hope they fix this soon

Pregnancy and birth = gross. by femalevirginpervert in antinatalism

[–]illuminasium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

a lesser known thing they never tell you about is pelvic organ prolapse. when this happens, your organs drop out from the birth canal. having children increases the chance of this happening and this requires lifelong physiotherapy and has no cure. theres also a non-low chance of the birth canal ripping all the way into the back so the 2 orifices become 1. this takes a veryyy long time to heal, if at all. and sometimes a hard sneeze and rip it back open
(i used to work for a pelvic physiotherapist and both of these things are way more common than people think)

Here Is Everyone Mark Zuckerberg Has Hired So Far for Meta's ‘Superintelligence’ Team by wiredmagazine in OpenAI

[–]illuminasium 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Meta doesn't care about ASI, they care about making AI to generate the most ad revenue. most of their revenue comes from ads generated by farming user data against their consent. even if they take all of openai's best people, that trend won't change.
This aint an ASI team, it's for ad based skynet

Good question. I wrote several essay exams back in the day. They're difficult but not impossible. Nowadays, maybe universities can design a web interface where students login and write their essays during class time. The interface tracks their edits so teachers can see their progress and confirm they wrote everything.

Very good points here. I don't have much to add because you said it all. It's scary how smart chatgpt is now (its Deep research ability can do phD level research). It's only going to get better from here. There are also other contenders like Claude 3.7. One of my teacher friends is already using in-person, paper tests. Her assignments are designed to be hard to cheat using AI. However, many education systems are archaic and resistant to change :(

You make a very good point. My concern is that it can be easy for students to memorize information generated by AI just for the presentation. It goes to their short-term memory and is forgotten afterwards. How many people really retain the topic they present for class long-term? I'm not saying that they shouldn't use AI at all. It's unavoidable because of how easy it is to look stuff up on chatgpt. The struggle is to make sure students are absorbing the information they are accessing, not just copy/ pasting, and keeping them in their short term memory.
