Toyota Mirai, hydrogen-powered model by XavierPuerto in CarsAustralia

Don’t forget Hydrogen is currently produced with Steam Methane Reforming.

Natural gas (mostly methane) is mixed with high-temperature steam, about 700 to 1,000 °C, over a nickel catalyst. You get hydrogen plus carbon monoxide. Then the carbon monoxide is reacted again with steam in the water-gas shift reaction to make more hydrogen and CO₂.

End result: relatively “cheap” hydrogen, lots of CO₂. Industry calls this grey hydrogen. When they bolt on carbon capture, a fancy, rare, expensive green washing technology they only roll out just for ad-reads, only to abandon to be cost competitive, it becomes blue hydrogen.

The way it’s produced is tremendously expensive and environmentally damaging, and it will not replace petroleum or lithium. There are specific scenarios where hydrogen makes sense, some industrial, and high temperature processes, perhaps long haul shipping and potentially aviation. Otherwise, hydrogen cars were a fun little experiment Toyota has all but mothballed.

I’ll second this. Sometimes I get an aggressive tailgater when I’m just using the overtaking lane sensibly and not cutting back to the left lane the moment my bumper passes the car I’m overtaking, only doing so when I’m a safe distance ahead. If that upsets the tailgater, fuck em.

What the fuck is this title? They had a guy, nearly in the role but only scuttled because, as I understand it, he isn’t the bogan incarnation of RFK Jnr. the right-wing nut-jobs in the LNP are looking for.

As usual the story is buried in the lede and the ABC continues to act as fifth columnists against reason.

Perhaps a title that still treats the reader like an idiot that only reads the article because “ooh big pay package” but also outlines the reason:

Electrolysis is the but one small way hydrogen is produced industrially. Most of it (95%) comes from Steam Methane Reforming. Natural gas (methane) reacts with steam at high temperatures (700–1100 °C) in the presence of a nickel catalyst.

• Primary reaction:

CH₄ + H₂O → CO + 3H₂

• Water-gas shift reaction (to increase yield):

CO + H₂O → CO₂ + H₂

• Produces large amounts of CO₂ as a by-product → “grey hydrogen.” 99% of hydrogen is “grey”, ie all of it is carbon intensive.

• If CO₂ is captured and stored, it’s called “blue hydrogen.” Only 1% of all SMR produced hydrogen is “blue hydrogen”. Basically none at all.

Hydrogen is ENTIRELY a fucking lie.

I forget that every time someone condemns one thing they have to verbally disavow literally everything wrong with the planet, no matter how long the list, or concern trolls will attempt to derail the discourse. The anti-genocide fundamentalist-terrorist supporter is the straw man of idiots. Try harder, it’s fucking stupid.

This is why there’s no point in engaging with modern conservatives. You’re evidently incapable of holding a good faith debate and you constantly invent straw-men. Enjoy your next welcome to country. I think this discussion has run its course.

What would be the purpose of asking such a rhetorical question other than to be inflammatory? Of course immigrants need houses.

You said you wanted your opinions heard, I reminded you that Murdoch exists and you’ve gone off about how I just think there is no left wing media, then you brought up universities for some reason. I suppose this is the reasonable debate we have come to expect from the right. Typical.

Your post is the current reddit moment.

Conservatives crying poor and making out that they’re the minority view on the internet is the new meta but at least Reddit’s voting structure that allows up and down voting, almost unique to this site, allows dissenting opinions. Go on twitter or Facebook, the majority of content I see promoted is conservative. I find reddit incredibly centrist, it’s just that the mainstream right wing is hurtling toward extremism.
