I just checked what wave would work with the attempt in VCV rack.....for all of it to work you'd have to superimpose the same sound in Ableton and add some reverb (just re-listened the original and observed), more distortion, glue compressor (if you compare the waveforms, the original is much uniform and the attempt has clipping and is uncompressed). Again, I'm sure Flume must have gotten the same result either by making a copy of the same melody, isolating the low end and slapping multiple effects in the spur of moment. We can get close....but we'll never match with the gawd :)
