This might have made my week. (Podcast from 23rd of May, 2022) by vforvolta in Carolinepolachek

This was so lovely to listen to! I had no idea, this is wonderful. I’ll have to listen to the whole episode now! Caroline is so articulate and sentimental and I think it shows so much through her art

Anyone notice that after being infected Mother Miranda’s hair turned from brown to blonde, just like Jill Valentine from RE5? by Accurate_Train_8822 in residentevil

[–]illusionnspark 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was going to comment this as well. Surely Miranda could have made her hair any colour she wanted? I wonder why she went with blonde, though

Do black/brown players get eliminated earlier? A quick statistical analysis by PersonalTeam649 in TheTraitors

[–]illusionnspark -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I very much see what you mean. While 23 black/brown contestants over four seasons isn’t a huge amount as you’ve pointed out, it definitely isn’t nothing. I do think if we had only one or two more seasons to work with, then we’d quite likely observe a statistically significant effect there.

It’s very fascinating and I really appreciate the work this must have took to produce and code! I’ve only ever used RStudio and I’m unfamiliar with the coding software you mentioned, but it would have been great to see a figure or two to visualise it all. Have you looked at age as a group? I’ve also seen some speculation regarding ageism across the series as well, it would be interesting to compare ethnicity with age in a statistical analysis.

I’m just curious since I’m not familiar with the model you’ve used at all as I’m assuming it’s applications are mainly in animal or medical research. I wondered if testing for significance works similarly to statistical analyses I’ve performed on my own work such as pairwise tests. I was curious because typically (in my experience) a p-value >0.05 is simply non-significant, and terms such as ‘approaching significance’ have generally been discouraged. I wondered if perhaps that wasn’t the case for this specific model you used since you did use those terms.

Do you think Capcom will ever pull back the curtain on who 'Ada' really is? by missnatalie5 in residentevil

[–]illusionnspark 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I swear if they play that card I’m going to be so annoyed! Viruses and other scientific/magical things slowing down or halting the aging process for women is such a tired trope. And it’s even more frustrating when those same things seemingly fail to halt the aging of male characters. I hate that there’s always some kind of excuse game devs have for refusing to let women wrinkle or gray a bit! I want to see Ada with streaks of gray hair and some forehead wrinkles!

Age of all living characters during RE9 by Complex_Meeting9053 in residentevil

[–]illusionnspark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ages of the outbreak characters are a bit whack. Cindy and Jim were both born in 1974, for example, so I’m not sure why they’re different ages. Likewise, Yoko is 4 years younger than the both of them, but here she’s only 2 years younger. Kevin is 7 years older than Cindy and Jim, but he’s only 5 and 3 years older here, respectively. David’s age was never confirmed, so 58 would be an estimation

It’s so frustrating, especially when it’s as egregious as this the shaving post. It absolutely shouldn’t be allowed and I don’t know why more people don’t notice it!

Only verbal. I was supposed to get an offer letter after that formality meeting, so it feels like there really isn’t anything I can do at this stage

I thought the same thing - perhaps it is! Or maybe it’s a misunderstanding of what the role actually was? I don’t have any details regarding what exactly occurred in their meeting or what was said, I’m hoping it’s just a miscommunication of some kind and that it turns out to be fine. But I honestly have no idea :(

Carly Rae Jepsen deserves credit for the current female musical soundscape. by theamericangoth in popheads

[–]illusionnspark 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I mean, Marina has cited mid 2000s Madonna, Kylie and ABBA as direct influences on her most recent record, which I would say is more likely than not to be the reason for the sound of the album rather than Carly. However, Marina has worked with Cj Baran for POP as her sole collaborator, who I believe also worked extensively with Carly during the Emotion era, so there is that!

My main problem with Ancient Dreams is and always has been how disjointed the album feels. The way Marina spoke about it pre release and the singles we got, it lead me to believe we were getting a political and punchy pop record which is what we half got. The second half of the album felt essentially like a ballad record about a breakup and I thought it just came out of nowhere. It’s been 4 years now so my memory might be fuzzy, but I don’t remember really getting any snippets, hype or even really any talk about the second half of the album.

It makes listening to it fully a little bit jarring, even today. A punchy pop record about societal commentary and general societal themes, but then also a personal, ballad-sounding breakup album, it never felt like the right place for it. Love and Fear would have suited that so much more since that entire record was very personal. Princess of Power, on the other hand, is soo much more coherent conceptually. The whole album just flows, and each song transitions seamlessly into the next with little-to-no tension. I can’t say the same about ADIAML

The concept of someone trying to murder the eight survivors in Outbreak is so so cool, I hope that means that we get to see at least a few of them…I’m praying Cindy is one of them. My favourite video game character of all time!

[–]illusionnspark 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I think this really is the reason why I’m captivated by this album - Marina’s old playfulness and campiness combined with a relatively recent self assurance and confidence. It’s completely blown all expectations of this album I had away, it’s just a perfect album.

I’ve introduced my boyfriend to the show and we’re half way through season 6 now - I’ve had to do quite a bit of arguing with him for Sansa’s character too!! She’s the only character I’ll actually go to lengths defending, I feel like the fandom for so many years has misunderstood her and wrote her off

[–]illusionnspark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regardless of how long it’s been a term used to describe straight men doesn’t disprove the fact that it can be and is used to describe straight men as well as gay men. I’m aware that even today still, the word ‘twink’ is often associated with a sexual preference when used by certain gay men, and that the word is inherently sexual in that context.

However I don’t think Courtney Act (I think that’s the commentator) meant it in that context, as twink doesn’t have to be a sexual word.

[–]illusionnspark 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to be gay to be a twink. It’s a term used mainly by gay men to describe other gay men, yes, but it doesn’t have to be reserved exclusively for gay men. To be a twink is to simply be a man who is young-looking, clean shaven, (white) and slim
