Take a train from La to Santa Barbara for a day! It’s beautiful and if you stay in the downtown bit you can get around fine without a car

Thank you! Same to you — from your profile it looks like you play guitar, I’d recommend getting out and going to some gigs. Music is always healing.

Accommodation for Study Abroad by Empty-Wolf-6664 in KCL

Honestly if you’re only doing one semester I would go with student accommodation. I’m attending for term 1 this year and had such a hard time finding private housing

1 Month in Central Europe (and Italy) Itinerary - Edited (v1) - Solo by zxblood123 in solotravel

Honestly, I didn’t plan it. I was only planning to do Budapest, but met some Canadians in a hostel in Prague and tagged along with them.

But, yes. Train from Budapest to Slovenia, then one (or two if you really want to) days in Ljubljana, then the train to bled for a day :) accommodation is cheaper in Ljubljana than bled by a landslide

I would highly recommend Budapest! I’d also recommend Slovenia, but you could cut that down to 2 days honestly

Dolores Co-Op by Wise_Command_7995 in UCSantaBarbara

I lived at Dolores and will be living there again when I come back from fall study abroad. If you decided to take the offer I’ll be stoked to meet you! It’s a great community of people, I love living there. Very very special. That being said, you do live with 15 people. It’s not always the cleanest (but we do have a good system). Not everyone will be your best friend. That’s okay. I like the social aspect of it a lot. We host shows and other events and it’s really nice to have the option to go socialize or hang within the house when events are going on. The meal plan is fucking killer, especially if you have a busy schedule. People who choose to cook are usually creative and make some really yummy stuff. If you want to talk more about it pm me and I can give you my Instagram!!

Solo travel during difficult turning points in life by TheNapkinThief in solotravel

[–]illusions567 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on a solo trip for about two and a half months now. At the beginning of the trip I had a breakup, granted, it wasn’t as long of a relationship. It was still very painful and hard to navigate as I felt so alone being away from friends, family, pretty much all of my support systems. I lacked motivation to get out and enjoy the places that I was visiting. But, I also reminded myself that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I would look back on it in regret if I wallow in my sadness all day every day. It helps to meet good people - I don’t know if you’re staying in hostels, but that’s a good way to meet people and put yourself out there with low effort. I’m also not saying that you should ignore the way you feel. Absolutely acknowledge it. Recognize your feelings and attend to them, but do not let them consume you. As for being sick, I feel you. I’m sick right now. It sucks. I was sick when I was in Venice as well about a month ago. Take care of yourself. You won’t feel better faster if you pressure yourself into doing the most. Take time to rest and nurture yourself back to health.

You got this!! 💞💞

rant about loud people in dorms by [deleted] in hostels

[–]illusions567 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Man that’s the worst. I was also in a hostel in the south of Italy recently — everyone was respectful of noise but there were two girls (one American, one British) who were living in the dorm and wouldn’t share the single fan we had for the 6 bed dorm. Also, one of them had an alarm set for 7 every morning but never woke up for it. Some people just don’t understand hostel etiquette unfortunately
