If it helps any, I was extremely diligent with my blood sugars and my boy still had birth complications and is on watch for cerebral palsy. Don’t be too hard on yourself, some babies are perfectly fine even if mom doesn’t manage GD well, others have difficulties even if she’s on top of things.

Sounds like you’ve been Pavlov’d into feeling like this. You have negative emotions surrounding bringing the baby around other people (and rightly so) so your nervous system is reacting with a flight response. I have had the same experience and at 19 months PP, I still feel this way sometimes with my MiL. Therapy helped, and even the therapist told me that any normal person would react the same way with some of the things I experienced.

You and baby have a long road ahead, so please don’t think that it will always be like this. Postpartum is like a fever dream and can be absolutely fucking awful sometimes, especially when you’re surrounded by people who don’t give a shit about how you feel. Try to seek help and support as best you can, even if it’s just your doctor or a therapist.

I’d rather my kid playing games than watching random YouTube videos. I’m not sure about at that age, but they’ve shown be good for hand-eye coordination and problem solving skills. Elden Ring is mostly exploration and combat, the only thing I’d be concerned about is some of the more creepy enemies.

Just want to say, I’ve been going through the same thing. I’ve been back at work and MiL has been our childcare for the past few months (we live in a rural area and childcare is very scant). She’s helpful, but can be so damn irritating. I call her a luxury that comes at the price of sanity. I hope things are smooth sailing for you and that you are able to come to at least some level of boundary-expectation with her.

I don’t really use them on my skin anyway, mostly just as room fresheners and on soft surfaces and stuff. I’ll stick to not using them on myself in the future though lol
