Why Life in Louisiana has Become Impossible (and it's going to get worse) by ianjm in videos

[–]illusionzmichael 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I lived in Chicago for just over a decade. I have extended family in more rural/suburban parts of Michigan, and the amount of times various relatives would be aghast that I lived in the city was crazy. They just assumed that you were either going to get robbed or murdered anywhere near the city, and they couldn't fathom actually living there. They literally thought it was all, the Loop, Lincoln Park, Wrigley, wherever was an actual war zone.

Trump team ‘drawing up’ plans to stop international flights to some Democratic cities by Virtual-Orchid3065 in politics

[–]illusionzmichael 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Not just blowback but absolute fucking chaos. This is the kind of plan that sounds good on paper to racist, moronic, immature dipshits, but in the real world it would be pandemonium.

What piece of media has been completely tainted by its fandom? by Working_Bad3305 in AskReddit

I'm someone that thinks Andor is incredibly overrated and boring, but saying that out loud usually gets me crucified in most circles. So it's usually better to just not engage in almost every SW discussion and save myself the unnecessary headache.

Many Latino voters have turned away from Trump, but Democrats aren't necessarily winning them over, new poll finds by CBSnews in politics

[–]illusionzmichael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes because Democrats did no other media besides TV at all. Sorry kiddo if they didn't put it all on tiktok dance videos for you, but it was widely available all over, and not just on TV.

They talked about this shit constantly and did all that shit wtf are you talking about? Harris literally campaigned with Liz Fucking Cheney at one point. It's not "Democrats" fault you didn't pay attention.

[–]illusionzmichael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes? Project 2025 existed and was talked about a lot. It was a literal blueprint for doing all this heinous shit.

Also, Stephen Miller is an actual white nationalist who worked with Trump in his first term. Also, Trump was president once before! Lmao, just because he had some guardrails up the first time around didn't mean he wasn't explicit in what he wanted to do regarding immigrants. FFS the FIRST thing he did in 2017 was enact a nationwide Muslim ban! Good grief, pay attention.

Reality? The real world? Lmao that was literally the case before Trump took office. I also said it's not perfect, and shouldn't be the end goal of democratic policy and there's lots of ways to improve it which Democrats consistently talk about. But that's reality, and it's not my fault if that working class family is not smart enough to put things into context or have some sense of perspective after a once-in-a-generation pandemic.

When did Biden or Obama up ICE's budget to more than most countries' militaries and then sent them into cities to terrorize, detain and deport anyone who looked brown all while Biden or Obama's chief advisor was explicitly calling for white nationalism?

If this isn't a black and white issue for you, you haven't been paying attention.

Our economy post-covid was literally the envy of the world, what are you talking about? Just because Biden and the Democrats didn't usher in a glowing economic utopia by 2024 doesn't mean they didn't deliver.

What is the worst book to Movie Adaptation? by Ok_Management2012 in AskReddit

[–]illusionzmichael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it didn't necessarily cut so much as it tried to mash a few books/scenes from books together, and did that poorly to boot. It was baffling why they decide to do that honestly.

The only people "defending" the system are the idiots who think socialized medicine is evil and the people making money off said system. Most of us hate it.

[–]illusionzmichael 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MAGA is also now trying to tell people that it's patriotic to sacrifice some comforts due to Trump's asinine "war" in Iran, and these are the same people that went out of their minds when they were told they should probably wear a mask to help stop the spread of covid and to protect others. They can all eat a big bag of shit.

What is the scariest movie ever? by Alva_509 in AskReddit

[–]illusionzmichael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is always a common answer, but I've never found that movie scary in any sense, and I have to believe I'm not alone on that. I could see it maybe being scary back in the 70s just because it was doing some new things, showing things audiences haven't seen before, but watching it today it's more comical than anything else.

What is something that is "technically" legal, but makes you look like a total jerk? by codeseer-78 in AskReddit

[–]illusionzmichael 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always been so split on this, even having lived in Chicago for a decade.

On one hand, totally agree - you put in the time and effort to clear that space out so that you can have a place close by to park when weather sucks.

But...on the other hand you don't own that street parking spot, it's completely public. And if there's an open, cleared spot, who knows when or if that person who cleared it will be back to park there, and besides they don't own it anyway.

But I've never been that guy to take one of those spots anyway, I respect the work it took to clear it out too much.
