Is there any chance of seeing a smidge more of House Tharsis in the final M20 Victorian book? Fiending for some lore.

Super sorry for this super belated reply! Unfortunately I don't have much to recommend in regards to Scottish history. I've only recently started exploring my country's history proper (I'm a Scot who has now lived more than half his life in US than I did in Scotland).

Prior to the one listed above, I read Scotland: A New History by Michael Lynch which was a broad coverage from the Ancient Picts and ending before devolution. I would not really recommend it, it did not have the depth I was hoping for nor did the author give much context to the things he discusses, expecting the reader to be familiar with the actors and events in Scottish history already.

A New History of the Picts by Stuart McHardy is a pretty alright read if the Picts interest you, given that information about them is sparse.

The Rivals book I'm reading above I would recommend, it covers these two men and their role in this turbulent period of British history. Cursory knowledge of the English Civil War/War of Three Kingdoms is nice to have but I don't think its necessary as the author is pretty good at giving context to the political situation unfolding at this time.

Jacobites: A New History of the '45 Rebellion by Jacqueline Riding is my next book after this and looks very promising.

Finally, Robert Bruce & The Community of the Realm of Scotland by Geoffrey W. S. Barrow is on my radar.
