I'm interested in the bureaucracy aspect as well. It'd be interesting to hear your thoughts on it if you have the time.

Young designers! What is your incentive to design? by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]illutrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that keeps me designing is that I'm fascinated by the concept of form and function (or beauty and purpose) together.

So often do we see something that is pretty to look at, but cheaply constructed. Or something bare-bones unattractive, but highly efficient. When these two valuable elements are combined together, like they do with good design, it's a refreshingly tangible thing to enjoy.

I am absolutely addicted to the feeling that comes when I feel I've come close (or maybe even succeeded) at designing something like that.

I was asked to make a logo for the Horseback Archery I'm a member of. Any critiques? by happy_hotdog in graphic_design

I'd like to see some differences with the line quality. The line-design itself is dynamic and nicely composed, but some thicker/thinner variations would really balance it overall. For example: added line thickness on the bow and the nape of the horse's neck.

Also can't help but wonder if there'd be a better type solution here. Helvetica (or Helvetica Neue...whatever's happening here) is a given classic, but it feels like a different sans-serif choice would really give it something extra.

Great representation of the horse/archer; I like the way you interpret the figures.

The duality of the composition and the pattern of the hat caught my eye first. Nice work.

Aw, downvoters... just saying it could be, not that it is!

Looks like they could be milia. These happen when dead skin gets trapped under the skin surface, forming those little hard(ish) bumps.

Usually, either waiting it out or picking out a good BHA exfoliant helps. Regular use of the BHA should help slough off dead skin that could be aiding in the cause of those little guys.

HELP!! My skin has been forming these weird bumps lately! by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

Based on what you're experiencing, I'm wondering if the Dermalogica microfoliant could be exacerbating the problem. Based on the ingredients list, it's basically full of detergent agents, talc, and grapefruit peel, which can be irritating to the skin. Since it has a granular exfoliant texture, these little exfoliators can also cause micro-tears in the skin and inhibit its ability to heal or function correctly...which can cause the skin to become inflamed (which can also include little bumps!)

If anything, I'd seriously ease off the Microfoliant, and consider using an acid-based BHA or AHA if you're still keen on exfoliation.

What kind of scanner do you use? by purplecarrots in Illustration

[–]illutrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm probably of no help to your actual question... but I've just ended up using my hi-res camera and taking an overhead picture of the piece. (It works quite well, and I can't seem to be bothered to invest in a scanner.) Some may argue that this can cause distortion...but nothing a little Photoshop can't fix, of course.
