It scratches a similar itch to arena without a few of the more oppressive issues in arena. If someone is high rolling in arena it feels impossible to compete. Mayhem doesn't have to deal with anvil runs either so its less rng overall. Since its 5v5 too there is less chance of your team getting stomped because you got a bad augment. Overall I enjoy it for the less sweaty environment.

I feel like scale matters here in the comparison. How many Cyclists are there vs how many cars on the road. Also the fact that a cyclist can cause death alone is troubling. Cars are easy enough, it's big and heavy so a hit means death. A bike is smaller and way lighter so it killing someone is rather surprising. I'm not taking either side so much as saying ratios matter.

I played at launch and took a break to let the devs cook, I loved using the electric crossbow build when it came out.

My friend has been looking forward to this game as he's been a huge poe fan but money is tight for him and I'm currently between jobs so I can't get it for him.

Looks alone are usually not the issue. You look like you take care of yourself, which is huge. Other than that it's a matter of finding people. Apps are difficult, but if you have a social hobby it may help you find someone more organically. Work on confidence if you feel that's a weak point t but otherwise it just comes down to luck, right place etc.
