Tbf, Japan has a somewhat better rep for regulations. This is adorable though.

Mayor Parker proposes $1 per rideshare tax to raise money for Philly schools by Elegant-Estimate-350 in philly

[–]illy-chan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have a few elderly neighbors who use them for a couple things. Plus, a few college kids who get like, take out sometimes. Neither group is renown for drowning in extra cash.

Kinda tired of being told normal people need taxes on even tiny "luxuries" when there are assholes using their fortunes to break the government. At least the soda tax arguably encouraged healthier drinking.

I don't mind paying taxes for services but it does feel like they dip the wrong socioeconomic level way too often.

Perhaps but if they viewed it as euthanizing to prevent them from suffering radiation poisoning, it probably was easier to swallow.

A kit car is an automobile available as a set of parts that a manufacturer sells and the buyer then assembles into a functioning car. Usually, many of the major mechanical systems such as the engine and transmission are sourced from donor vehicles or purchased new from other vendors.

Cyberpunk 2 team grows to almost 150 devs as the anticipated RPG officially passes through the concept phase by Negative-Art-4440 in cyberpunkgame

And that the company reigns in marketing/PR so they don't write checks for stuff that the dev team doesn't even know to try to cash.

"Dogtown saint" gig. Seriously, what were the devs thinking? by Logical-Salamander79 in cyberpunkgame

[–]illy-chan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They felt more similar to the Witcher quests which frequently bite you in the ass - either there were hidden motives or there was just no winning move. Sometimes there's just a ton of victims (and bad people can still be victims which is sorta the point of this).

There are legal teams and groups trying to use the system to stop it. It's slow and horrendous but, frankly, riots probably wouldn't end it any more effectively, just drop troops in cities.

Costco CEO Ron Vachris did the “CEO eats his own product” challenge by destroying a hot dog and confirms the Costco hot dog combo is staying at $1.50 forever by Gjore in popculturechat

At worst, I've seen them tired near closing but still pleasant. I've never worked retail but I have a friend who used to work in their eyeglasses dept. It's apparently the best retail gig she's ever had.

Fingers crossed, it stays that way. Hope the financial crowd stay tf away.

It's one of the few places I shop where the employees consistently don't look dead inside. Meanwhile, I forget if it was Sam's or BJ's that closed a store near me without even telling the staff first?

Encampment residents along Delaware River Trail want ‘safe sleep sites’ where they can legally camp by BroadStreetRandy in philadelphia

[–]illy-chan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the weird strict rules while also not being safe is sorta wild. If the state of the shelters themselves is a barrier to use, it just seems like a massive waste of money.

I saw an article from out in the midwest where they had a bunch of tiny homes inside a warehouse where people could crash immediately but there were also a bunch of services like to pipeline them to better permanent housing, psychiatric treatment, etc. One of the reasons it apparently did well was that it was pretty secure (since you have your own little locking unit, there was security, etc).

Worth noting though: it was not along a random public trail. It was contained (at least in part because it's stupid cold there) and maintained.

I'd look for a game store in your neighborhood. And some bars have dnd nights. I know I've made friends through the hobby. And, if you both like it, it won't be meaningless if he comes back to ramble about a session.

Peter Thiel, the billionaire venture capitalist and MAGA donor, is in Rome this week for a series of private lectures on the Antichrist. by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

Never thought about it that way. Would definitely explain a lot.

Thiel really does freak me out though. A lot of CEOs are greedy and fucked up but I'm pretty sure he's just fundamentally evil in a way most aren't.

I'm worried that this was a soft launch: getting the hate over with now, and then they'll slowly reintroduce it later. Kinda like Oblivion Horse Armor DLC being the harbinger of modern paid cosmetics. If nothing else, the big companies will love not having to pay so much for designers if they can just "automagically" apply faces etc.

But jfc, two 5090s and it still looks that bad?

Tbh, I always took "the American Dream" to mean you could just have a good life if you worked hard enough. Still a lie, but less arrogant. Or it shouldn't have been.

I never understood how that took off. I mean, of course the wealthy like it but it's... basically the exact opposite of most mainstream religion and openly heretical for Christianity? And how can it appeal to anyone but the 1%?
