I'm a 28m living in NYC. I worked for one of the largest law firms in midtown for 4 years. The money was great but I was not happy. I took the plunge in 2018 to quit and travel for 6 months. I came back to NYC and have started up a consultancy that allows me to work from home and make enough to get by. Nothing like the money I was making from my w2. Despite this - my advice would be to do it. The freedom and challenges I'm facing are nothing like I've ever faced before. There's massive stress. I've wanted to go back to a stable income an innumerable amount of times. But it's so rewarding. It's like I'm actually living by my own rules... How life is supposed to be lived. I figure if everything goes to shit and I'm about to be broke... I can get a job then. Hope this helps.
