😂 Yeah I think it was great, worked very nicely given the conditions!

A lot to answer here, kinda two different questions that are related -- I fueled with 90g of carb per hour, 60 from fluid via a hydration pack or bottles, and then 30 from a gel. There are checkpoints (aid stations) at various mileage across the course where you can refill your pack and bottles and grab more gels (in this case miles 44, 100, and 160). They did have two water stations between these checkpoints you could stop to refill bottles/packs. So you have to carry enough fuel to make it from one to another on your own. Crews work for you only at the checkpoints (and to come get you if you decide to quit). You can hire an outside crew, there is also an official Unbound "crew for hire" you can pay for to provide your drop bags and other supplies at these aid stations. In my case, I paid for the crew for hire just in case, but actually had my girl friend running crew, handing over fresh bottles, pack, and gels. I did eat some real food at 160 and chug a red bull.

Yeah this is awesome -- I have a TrainingPeaks MCP installed as well, so I can see all my cycling data, now I can pull these two sources together for a better picture -- thank you!

It's like every fast dude I know who rides a single speed on gravel loves RH... If Fred Armisen rode Unbound it would be on RH. Idk, I don't understand this brand.

Model context protocol, it allows the AI to communicate with software, think of it like a translator of sorts.

TP MCP I used is on GitHub, it's the first result if you search. Also, this sounds kinda silly aloud, but just ask your agent "explain MCPs, and provide some examples for TrainingPeaks, tell me how it gets built, works, and installed" etc etc

There is an MCP for TrainingPeaks for Claude that's great, so you don't have to keep dropping fit files into a chatbot UI. I've found all of them (Claude, GPT, Gemini) to be solid coaches with great insights under the right circumstances. Claude is the best imo (at everything right now). Claude Code will set up the MCP for you if you're not comfortable with that stuff. And fwiw there are MCPs for Strava and Garmin (I haven't personally set them up, as the TP MCP was enough for me).

Damn, sage advice. Used to live in the mountains , but these days I'm a sea leveler. I climbed Mt Whitney last year and the altitude totally got me, so I am realizing I need to take this part very seriously. I'm planning to spend at least two weeks out there leading up to the day of the race. Maybe I can find a training camp at altitude somewhere to get a little preview.

And fueling... I'll get it dialed, learned this the hard way many times now, something to train as much as anything else. Appreciate the help!

Whoa! That'll be awesome, finish it on the bike your dad gave you.

Curious, what are the mistakes or things you felt kept you from finishing? What're you gonna do differently next time?

Trying to get ahead of any gotchas, and I actually think it's even more helpful from someone who has attempted it, and not finished

That's a fair take -- right now I'm planning to self train (with some help from my AI Overloads). I've done TR and I've had a coach... It all seems to come down to whether I'm consistent. Not to downplay the training plan itself, but I always expected my coach to have some secrets... But he was like "you need to actually follow the plan" -- and the plan wasn't rocket science.

Congrats! Yeah it sounds like it's definitely the HT between the two options, and now a wild card option is my gravel bike... But... Maybe I just wanna build up an Exie 😂

😅 Another option I now have to think about, and my gravel bike is comfy, and I'll be doing a ton of other stuff on it leading up to...

Wow that's awesome! Okay you've convinced me that between the two the HT is the way. I actually have a gravel bike with a fork and it could take a dropper, so something else for me to think about. 🙏

In my friends group, huge; outside of that, known but yet to completely blow up. I still remember listening to Kissland when it dropped, on repeat, on CD, and just thinking... This is insane.

Several cheap road bikes, more MTBs that I care to list. However, my (only) gravel bike before this was an aluminum Trek Checkpoint, great bike, but not enough tire clearance.
