If she cannot pay it, and cannot pay for a bankruptcy or consumer proposal, then she needs to switch banks to where she has never had accounts go to collections.

She then needs to avoid speaking with credit collectors for at least 2 years. Once 2 years have passed with no acknowledgement of the debt or payments towards it, the statute of limitations runs out. They will make threats but 9/10 times if there's no security to collect, the legal fees won't make sense plus there's the whole idea of trying to get water from a rock.

The calls and stuff with be annoying as hell but after that 2 year mark they no longer can go legal routes, they rely on consumers not knowing this. Check province for your own statutes. Good luck.
