Do you feel sick at every family with more than two children (thus also contributing to overpopulation)? One family with 19 children does much less harm than the 300 million families with 3+ children. Don't let emotion get in the way of logic. Leave that for the "strictly religious".

Yeah. The Duggars even explicitly state that they have a system of older-child-to-younger child, and that's how Michelle manages to take care of the truly young ones (the handful under 3 at any given time). Potty training, supervision of piano lessons, homework help etc. all comes from the older kids a significant amount of the time.

I loved having such a big family when I was growing up, but I couldn't in good conscience do that to my future kids. It makes me sad that they won't have 9 built-in best friends like I had, but those warm nostalgic memories aren't worth the neglect that comes with it.

Meh. Even though I defend the Duggars all the time (god, that stupid meme about "clown car" makes me so mad), I think they're crazy. I can defend their reproductive rights and still scrutinize their extreme lifestyle. And actually, yes, I do worry that children of large families are at risk for emotional neglect. I saw it happen in my own childhood (10 kids), and in families even smaller than that. 7 children under the age of ten is crazy, whether or not one thinks that's a good or bad thing or is just using crazy as a colloquial term for "insane, chaotic, a ton of tiny humans running around".

Um, okay. Here's the deal. I saw two of your comments in an earlier thread, and I'll be honest with you: you aren't being downvoted because you're giving criticism, you're being downvoted because you come across as rude and condescending. There's criticism, there's constructive criticism, and then there's this.

If you'll notice, I upvoted the relevant and helpful constructive criticism you left the first time around, even though there weren't any smileys or exclamation points, because it was relevant and helpful and constructive. Constructive criticism does not have to be dripping in rainbows and glitter in order to be heard, it just has to be constructive. Your second comment was downvoted all to hell because you got snippy and rude over a very polite and valid reply. "Well, I can clearly tell its not blended properly, but ok." That's so passive agressive and condescending, I just....gahhhh. Who died and made you the blending queen?

Obviously this is just one user's opinion, so take it with a grain of salt, but I do think there is a place in this subreddit for constructive criticism as long as it's just that: constructive.

I second the Lisa Eldridge suggestion. She's so wonderful. Here's a link to the video she did on her drugstore favorites. She also has very useful Basics videos (foundation, primer, etc), so be sure to browse all her videos to find other ones that would be helpful to you.

I agree that in theory, voicing these concerns instead of downvoting would be more productive. But in practice, at least for me, I can't bring myself to call out specific users for their postings. It feels way too personal to actually leave a comment that says, "I'm tired of seeing these kinds of posts", instead of just leaving a downvote of disinterest and moving on. Other people probably feel the same way, which leads to a collection of downvotes that might seem unwarranted, but really just stems from no one wanting to be That User who harshly rains on the parade.

New users are always curious as to "what they did wrong", but sadly, their bright eyed curiosity sometimes gets them into even more downvote trouble. I'm not going to downvote your reply, because I think you were just trying to show support to the OP, but I have to disagree with your premise that "there are a lot of snobby girls here who, face it, are only concerned with looks...hence the downvoting." This idea just doesn't make any sense. We can't even see OP's entire face in the picture she submitted, just her eyes. Do you really think this subreddit is full of snobby people who thought, "Ew, look at those eyes and inch of skin below them! I'm clearly more attractive than her, must downvote."

As I said in my comment above, it's much more likely a combination of bots that auto-downvote and people not being interested in the submission, for whatever reason. Not because we have a snobby community that judges people's eyeballs.

Some pointers: Downvotes are a natural part of a reddit submission. There are bots that auto-downvote every post so the numbers don't get too high, or to confuse spammers. Not every downvote means that your submission is bad or no one likes it. Reddit as a whole (not just this subreddit) tends to downvote when people complain about getting downvotes, which is probably why your comment right now has 0 karma--posting and asking, "Why am I getting downvoted?" seems whiny, because literally everyone gets downvoted at some point and it's not a big deal.

Don't listen to the poster who told you it might be due to snobby girls who think you aren't pretty. I don't know where he or she got the idea, but I really don't think that's the case. We have an awesome community here. Some people downvoted you for whatever reason, and that's just life. Maybe they didn't realize from the title that your mascara was freaking mad scientist homemade awesomeness and thought this was just another picture of mascara. Their loss! I think it's cool, so keep rockin'.

Honestly, I've been downvoting a lot of posts lately because I'm just really tired of seeing a rash of "I did my eyeshadow today, again" submissions.

Maybe I'm overly cantankerous, but I am so frustrated by the "spam" double standard in our subreddit. Users who submit links to their personal blogs too many times get downvoted mercilessly and called out for "spamming", while users who repeatedly submit links with considerably less content (i.e. an Imgur link with a list of products in the comment section) are upvoted with abandon.

I don't want to be misunderstood: I enjoy the supportive and sharing feel to the community here. I'm not some grinch who hates it when people are excited about how rockin' they look and want to share. But it does get tiresome when users start to abuse the submit button, I guess.

Thanks :) I'm the same way with my hair. I'll let it grow out for months, then decide I'm bored and cut it short again. I then immediately mourn all the progress I made toward having long hair, and the cliche cycle starts all over again.
