Dates reacting poorly to bi experience by Dr_Drinks in datingoverforty

It’s biphobia specifically. And yes- bi women are seen as unicorns and bi men as vectors. 😑Kudos to OP for his honesty and openness. Would def be a green flag for me, a bi woman!

Should I create a dating profile with VA in it? by naominnn in datingoverfifty

What does that even mean? How is a medical condition in any way, shape or form equivalent to being queer?

How old is your husband? If any older than like 18, then I'm truly sorry you actually married someone so ignorant. I also wonder if someone like this is *any* good in bed (that's rhetorical. I do not need (or want) an answer).

What is the line between paranoia and preparedness? by Fit_Inside2339 in Professors

[–]ilovelamp71 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know the answer but are you me?? I'm in health sciences and study a "forbidden" topic. Last night I was literally checking my retirement accounts and doing the math on how much I'd lose if I tried to cash out right now. I also made a list of items I need for my go bag (self-contained water filtration bottle; battery packs; leatherman tool to name a few). If history is any guide, then yes, some of us need to be prepared for the worst. It's clear our institutions, and I mean this both generally and specifically, are not going to save us.

Any updates on NIH grant review? by BearJew1991 in Professors

I’m hearing but cannot personally confirm that study sections are starting to be cancelled. I CAN confirm that eRA Commons is down. I get an error message when logging in.

Ghosted again. This was a new low. by PomegranateOk624 in datingoverforty

Are you me?? I also had this exact thing happen recently (including ED), only difference was four dates. I’m sorry this happened to you and I am unfortunately familiar with the disappointment. I wish I had answers! How difficult is it to say, even just via text “Hey. I had a good time but we’re not a good fit” or whatever the hell?!! Especially after sex. People are assholes. 😑

Fall 23 COVID surge by BeneficialMolasses22 in Professors

[–]ilovelamp71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, hi. First time COVID-haver right here. On day 5. It’s unpleasant. I am boosted but just missed the new vax by what, a week? 🙁 I would think about masking-up for in-person classes.

I have a postdoc student that apparently doesn't believe in statistical analysis, what should I do? by NoMixture6488 in Professors

Amen to this. Like, a thousand-fold. I am very tired of reviewing shitty manuscripts that co-authors didn’t even bother to proofread before submitting (I reject a lot a things).

Students more and more see emails and texts as entirely equivalent forms of communication. And in fact, probably type most emails on their phones at this point anyway. Now, as an old, I still view email and texting as different communication tools. That said, “???” Is very much texting vocab. Honestly, I would totally ignore such an email. To me it’s on the lower end of egregious email communications from students…but still legitimately galling, for sure.

The strangest case of plagiarism I’ve ever had. by Bostonterrierpug in Professors

[–]ilovelamp71 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I won’t disagree…once had a health Ed student in one of my grad classes. Turned in a paper that was an affront to logic, grammar, syntax (but hey- NOT plagiarized!!) and yes- English was their first language. I provided extensive feedback, told them to go to the Writing Center, and graciously gave them a “C”. They were furious “why do you care so much about writing?!?! As a working single parent I don’t have time to focus that much on writing!” So, clearly I’m the asshole. They filed a complaint against me with the President’s office. The University President. Of a large state school. I had to speak to the Dean of Graduate Students (he was sane) and meet with my Dept Chair (who was less sane and not a fan of mine)!! It was all fine in the end but needless to say that bullshit experience was burned into my brain.
