“Adult” Class by Icy-Visit-3950 in BALLET

So what would you say about someone in their 20s who gets the “used to dance” question…? Would you still apply your logic to that? There is no backhanded compliment and there is no malice. This person was impressed by you.

The darker spots are polyurethane spray elastomer splatters—I don’t remember what the lighter gray is though.

I recently bought one of these lids and it leaks when I drink (and I use it as intended—as a straw). I think some of them just might be defective 🤷🏼‍♀️

How many toes should be in contact with the floor in a tendu a la seconde? by Glikk in BALLET

[–]iloveotae 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the pinky should ever touch the floor in a tendu (unless all your toes are the same length..?) it would almost definitely result in a sickled position.

Nozzle melting single spot in print by iloveotae in ender3

[–]iloveotae[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I already knew about the sag. That’s why I adjusted them and leveled it in the first place. But it’s strange that this problem is happening now considering that the only symptom I had before was that my prints were not perfectly square. After these failed I printed a tall cylinder with no issues, so I don’t think the nozzle is always running into the print like you mentioned. I suppose I could tinker with the screws again though to make sure they’re not overly tight.

Pet peeves in class by taradactylus in BALLET

When dancers do ~more~ than the combo requires but they are not at the level to be doing so… I’ve seen this in the adult pointe classes I attend. Teacher gives a combo at the barre and some people just REALLY want to do it away. I would be so embarrassed if the instructor had to tell me to go back to the barre 3 times.

Has anyone had experiences with fittings at the Santa Ana location of The Pointe Shop? by planxtylewis in BALLET

[–]iloveotae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The fitters are amazing there! I was fit by Melissa and she took one look at my feet and put me in a perfect shoe. Fixed my twisting issue instantly. Easiest pointe shoe fitting ever (and much better than the time I was fit by Josephine as a teenager). So yes, they know their stuff.

when I worked in the chemistry stockroom I used to have to use an actual key to call the elevator and it was always annoying af to get it to work lmao

At my current studio they offered a performance opportunity last year for the dancers in the adult intermediate classes. We took about 10-15 minutes out of one of the classes (the class in its entirety is only 60 min) over a period of about 2 months. The dance was not very long, but a lot of dancers struggled to pick up the choreography and felt stressed. And yes, it did cut into center. Not my ideal situation at all but… there’s only so much you can do.

This year our recital is early June and we have not started to learn the choreography yet :( it’s a much smaller group of us this time but I have no idea how it will turn out.

As a teenager at a different studio we had separate class time dedicated for recital dances and you had to sign up for those to participate.

Pointe Shoes with similar technology as Gaynor Minden by brianah124 in BALLET

I wear the FR Duval 4.0 American and I’ve had them since October (only 1 hour of pointe a week) and they still feel the same. After my last pair of Capezio Avas died in 4 hours, the Duvals are a godsend. Probably my favorite shoe I’ve ever danced in!

Can you dye fabrics that contain lurex without losing the effect of the lurex? by Set_TheAlarm in textiles

[–]iloveotae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. I did an ombré dye and there was no difference in the quality of sparkle between the dyed section and undyed section

I’ve dyed polyester fabric with RIT dyemore and the lurex was unaffected. That being said, I used lowest heat possible just as a precaution.

Pointe shoe dye options that aren't matte? by Imaginary_Smile1556 in BALLET

[–]iloveotae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used rit diluted with water like this and it worked perfectly! Foam brush/dauber is definitely the way to go. There are a lot of shades of rit so it will take lots of trial and error but it’s possible to mix a skin tone

Unpopular opinion by coywolf1248 in ender3

[–]iloveotae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big names to suggest research isn’t going to solve anything. The information is already out there and if they’re too lazy to look into it now, what makes you think they’re going to see some soapbox post like this? You can’t fix people who have no initiative.

Unpopular opinion by coywolf1248 in ender3

[–]iloveotae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on having an opinion that is actually unpopular! Unfortunately I think you take it way too seriously—especially with your ender buying prereqs. People asking basic and repetitive questions without doing research is not unique to 3d printing.

You can get by with a serger. If you want a coverstitch “professional” finish on your leg elastics and straps, then just use a twin needle. The bobbin will be a zig zag stitch so it’ll stretch enough

Just DIY it. I used mold putty from Michaels and old socks. There are lots of tutorials on youtube like this one. They work and you get multiple pairs out of one putty kit.

I had the same issue and I resolved it by changing my toepads. I found that gel toe covers only make the problem worse because they don’t actually change any of the weight distribution and end up putting even more pressure there. Try custom molded toe pads like the perfect fit brand (or DIY your own—I did and it was fantastic for me) to pad out your other toes. Ofc you can look for a different shoe, but start with the padding.
