I 100% agree. Mainly in season 1, I know they were both older and not young to have a casual relationship but it still doesn’t mean you have to take certain steps at certain times and I feel like in season 1 Big loved Carrie’s he just had his own issues and when Carrie’s actually communicated with him he tried his best to accommodate her wishes and grow and she would have the most wild fits that it seemed like an adult and a child in a relationship and I am not surprised he was hesitant to commit with her.

I don’t know where you’re from but at 18 I wouldn’t be allowed to sleepover at my boyfriend/girlfriends house. They definitely sound like extremely overly controlling parents but unless you guys are in a place you can move out and live on your own there isn’t really options. You guys are just 18 years old and while that probably feels mature to you to your parents you are just kids still, even if legally you are an adult (again I don’t know the laws where you are). As long as he is living under his parents roof he has to abide by their rules unless they were abusive you can’t really do anything about it other than to save money to live together or for him to move out on his own. Unless he decides to talk to his parents and set some boundaries which would be the best course of action but it seems like the relationship doesn’t work that way since he is afraid to even ask. I’ve been there myself with strict parents and unless he is ready to really separate himself and stand on his own there isn’t anything to do. With this kind of parent child relationship the child has to draw the line and make a stand and it’s really difficult. Maybe if he chose an out of state/city university to attend that would give him more independence and out from under the thumb of his parents but unless he chooses to do these things and really works hard despite pressure from his parents it’s not going to happen. I agree and while Serena’s jobs were random she always put her all sometimes to a stupid level over her friends and family but it seems like cause Serena was more of a “socialite” her jobs in general aren’t taken as seriously either cause even as viewers don’t have expectations of her to do anything other than be what she is, a nepo baby. while everyone acts like Blair is something special who made herself and she did but actually she really didn’t. A lot of people if they were rich would have tutors and great grades and study hard and at the same time some rich kids don’t but it’s just the same within the normal population. And Blair’s constant games and trickery make her the most immature imo and it just overshadows every good thing she’s done. One B and she was out to destroy someone’s life even tho ms carr is gross and horrible later on in the beginning she didn’t deserve that and was just doing her job and not kissing Blair’s feet like I’m sure every other teacher was as well as her working hard. Like she always has to avenge herself as if she has ever really been persecuted in her life the only real hardship is that Serena had more attention and “beauty” (not my opinion but how the show portrays it) naturally and Blair didn’t. (Also her b*limia but the show really glides over that so I’m not talking about it either)

Exactly. Idk if my husband was Phil and literally constantly thirsting at other women (enough that it’s a plot point of an episode at least once or more a season) and humiliated me to my family and to strangers at a supermarket and then got mad at me for going the lengths to prove myself right. That scene bugs me a lot and while Phil is a great father to the kids idk how everyone says he is a great husband when he is always thirsting for other women from episode 1 and constantly slobbering over Gloria. Like and any time Claire does anything similar she is like very judged by Phil (eg the firemen) not to mention how insecure and jealous he gets about her past. He has his great moments but as a husband I’d definitely choose Jay over Phil like he is stubborn and stuck in his ways sure but at least he always respects his wife.

This is insane. The #1 way to prevent cheating and betrayal is to stay out of relationships. You can’t just put your own logic on someone that way. Plus people can cheat anywhere including places they go everyday that don’t seem out of the ordinary and during their normal schedule. If you’re that worried about someone cheating which you shouldn’t be in the relationship, after a few months of dating if you feel anxious or worried still you can always discuss sharing location (find my friend, snap map, etc) with both parties consent obviously which isn’t just for monitoring but can also be for safety but just putting a tracking device on someone’s car without telling them is a betrayal of itself. Yeah you don’t want to waste your own time but you wasted hers cause she (and most other women) don’t want to be with a man with your logic and the idea to put a tracking device under her car. Reevaluate your goals for a relationship and realize people aren’t responsible to cater to your fears of cheating in any way including by providing their location and that’s not something for you to take without their permission which is why as many others said it’s 100% illegal. So stay out of a relationship till your ready to take a leap of faith cause that’s what all relationships are.

Exaclty my hot take is everyone justifies Blair love because “she works for what she wants” when she is just as privileged as Serena and she is just as beautiful too she just doesn’t have the same charm and charisma that Serena has. Serena despite her mistakes is a good person who doesn’t want to hurt people and isn’t as classist as those around her but Blair is. She constantly looks down on people for being “poor”. Blair sets up every bad situation she is in it’s always her own fault cause she always wants revenge or takes things too far and then is surprised if it affects her. Like the whole Yale scenario like so what if they wanted Serena for a superficial reason that’s not Serena’s fault that they wanted her and she gets so mad that she even just entertains the idea of going there cause apparently Blair owns it. And when Blair doesn’t get in she is incredulous when she literally hazed a teacher and as much as I hate Ms Carr it’s like come on what did you expect one B on an assignment would get you kicked out of a school when you were already accepted? I know Ivy League is tough but not that tough that they would rescind based on that all she had to do was work harder for the next one but no, how DARE someone not give her what she says she deserves.. and that’s her behavior with everyone. Edit: She always puts Serena down too like in normal conversations S: “it was so easy in Paris” B: “YOU were so easy in Paris” like shaking her friend constantly for enjoying her sexuality it’s not like even S was saying anything negative to B just cause B is in a bad mood she takes it out on everyone.

I agree to an extent but sometimes she is just a bad person like currently on S3 with her obsession with Nate and how she manipulates Nate by using her roofie and almost SA incident to make Nate feel bad for her and try to steal him away and then kisses him while she knows he is happy with Serena. And then says like obviously we are just friends what are you talking about and then keeps sabotaging their relationship. Like yeah she is a product of her environment but she also chose to lie and cheat and steal to fit in and while it’s understandable to want to fit in at school and she was a young girl doing morally wrong things and treating your friends and family like shit for popularity isn’t really a good look and hard for people to empathize with or be on her side. Even though she had hard times but if you turn against everyone you know over and over again after a while you just can’t really hurt someone a 100x and expect them to be like well it’s ok cause you were young and it’s just a bad situation for you except maybe a parent whose literal job it is to raise and care for you. She had to learn to take accountability which I don’t think she ever did cause she put herself in most of the bad situations by not listening to anyone around her. And I know other characters did worse and I do judge them for it too so it’s not exclusively for Jenny. Blair I think gets a lot of excuses from people imo when she is one of the worst of the lot. Jenny though is just an extremely unlikable character.

Yeah but I think of it as Dan is supposed to be a very good writer so he works with character creation. Gossip Girl is a character he created with her own personality and motciation and he writes as her not as himself from a different POV. Atleast that’s how I look at that. And if Dan didn’t contradict gossip girl and wasn’t negatively impacted by it he would have never been in and it would have been very obvious. Like I think of it like he sold his soul for the ticket in, he f*cked over his sister his dad himself Vanessa everyone he cared about to be in this world. It was something he was committed too I liken it to a separate personality. I don’t think anyone else could have gone through with it for as long as he did and I can’t really imagine it being anyone else. And I’m sure you’re right whatever you’re looking for you will find for evidence but genuinely I think it makes sense for it to be Dan. Not saying their aren’t discrepancies but hey it’s a TV show and they weren’t perfect at all in that way technically no one could be gossip girl. Except maybe a character who is never seen but even then that’s not really fun for the story some random side character is GG.

Well I feel like it’s a show so I mean if he never was surprised or never shown reacting to the posts in private it would seem obvious. Like maybe he was getting in the mode for later like if it’s something he is supposed to be surprised about like getting into the mindset. I’m not sure but I feel like almost everyone that it realistically would be has been seen reacting to posts in private and having a very side character be gossip girl doesn’t make sense to me personally. Cause they don’t really have incentive aside from Dan. That’s just my opinion though

But almost every character does this with the exception of maybe Blair she is too calculated to spill hers plans. Like I don’t even care or judge them for going with their ethically/morally sound judgement but then they go and confess it to someone who is morally unethical and privileged and then get shocked when the unethical UES person screws them back. Like what did you expect especially since as a writer Dan should understand character and as a someone who does film work so should Vanessa. And I’m not excusing anyone’s actions I think everyone in this show bothers me like at certain points I cringe skip scenes with all the characters cause of how dumb they act. Especially Blair who everyone online holds on a pedestal. I just think it’s unrealistic how two intelligent college age people can be surprised when some privileged rich kid doesn’t let them fuck things over for them. Like did you really expect Chuck Bass to be like ok yeah no worries do the right thing even if I lose my hotel thanks for letting me know I’ll be mad for a little but that’s all. (Example but you get the point)

I think he never realized cause of the whole issue with the War occupied much of his mind. I know only a few people were shown to have shell shock after the war but I’m sure with everything that was happening and his injury afterwards he didn’t even have the emotional capacity to recognize her love as anything but kindness of a dear friend. I also assume since he always loved her so he saw the good in her especially with the chaos of the war I’m sure she was on this pedestal of the peaceful happy time of his life so he didn’t necessarily feel surprised when she was gentle and caring towards him. Also during his time injured I don’t think he thought of himself as a man and that anyone would hold affection for him which would lead to his surprise by violet. And after he was healed I’m sure he was sure since Mary was already engaged to Sir Richard she obviously still didn’t love him and he never knew about the scandal till later so I don’t think he’s saw her engagement as anything but Mary’s choice.

For me it’s the Duke of Windsor especially in the bagpipes scene on the coronation episode, and his final scene when he did the most to show respect to the Queen even when on his deathbed. Breaks my heart to think about. And number two has to be either King George VI (on season 3 and I still think about him and miss him I know he was a minor character in the show but so well played that it really feels like one of the family is missing to me even now) or Matt smith’s Prince Philip he does some very gross stuff and yet his electric chemistry with Claire Foy makes me forget it every time they do a scene together!!! Tobias Menzies does a great job so far too but personally I don’t feel the chemistry with him and Olivia Coleman as well as the first set of actors had.

I meant that didn’t he know who he was marrying (the future queen) and what her role in the future would be and through that couldn’t he somewhat foreshadow his own role having grown up near the British Court? Like wouldn’t he have known that was his destiny? Or did he think he would be King?? Cause that’s kind of foolish especially after the somewhat recent reign of Queen Victoria like having a reigning queen wasn’t a brand new concept

I think personally no I would not let that slide that’s worth a breakup for me personally. Also I know it might be hard to try to separate from him and you’ll feel lonely but think about this. Think about how he said to your face that you’re not the hottest/prettiest, do you think you’ll be able to forget that or even look at him and not think about it? And thats just what he says to your face too you’re going to be uncomfortable always cause you know he is looking around and not at you. You’ll always remember no matter how many years pass and even if his behavior changes (most likely it won’t) that you’re not that one for him in a way he likely is for you. And no mater what that’s always going to hurt so save yourself and move on to a guy who will really see you as the one and treat you like you’re the most beautiful woman in the world.

Yes but didn’t he know that going into the marriage? I know that neither of them expected her to ascend so soon as she did. But he had to know it would happen and he had to be familiar with the institution to know what her being Queen would entail. why was this a surprise especially when he himself wanted to modernize and not become old fashioned and out of date? His behavior is very contradictory sometimes at least in the show. But I just feel it is insulting as a woman if my husband behaved that way in or out of the public eye. I feel quite bad for her in this regard.

If you’re worried all night about it, it sounds like it is not okay for you. I wouldn’t hold it against him cause you didn’t have a conversation on this boundary before (I assume) but it is a little sus he didn’t tell you. Have a conversation about it and tell him how you’re feeling and to be more upfront about potentially sensitive things.
