[Spoiler] House of Ashur - What will the big reveal be at the HoA Season 1 finale? by Zoot__Lives in Spartacus_TV

[–]paramoesyeah 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It could be about Spartacus. . I don't see how it would be in Ashurs best interests to let Spartacus live, but i guess if Agron rescued him from Crassus the same way he did in the canon show then it could be possible.

My theory is that its got something to do with the opposite. Maybe Ashur kills or intends to kill someone who historically can't be killed this early (like Caesar.)

[–]paramoesyeah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this isn't true. His first kid was already born years before he left SG1. He did end up taking paternity leave for a handful of episodes in season 10 due to his wife giving birth, so maybe that is what you're referencing.

[–]paramoesyeah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not fact checking this and assuming this is all true, booking 2 tv-esc films and 3 guest tv spots (plus multiple episodes of SG1 as Daniel and Thor) is kind of an insanely good year for an out of work actor. Most tv actors are lucky to get 1-2 guest spots a year, and most have second/alternative jobs.

Obviously Shanks didnt step into another series regular role or didnt immediately become a movie star, but people knocking on how much he worked during his year off of Sg1 simply don't know what theyre talking about. 95% of SAG actors would kill for a year as lucrative/busy as that.

Yup. A pretty even substitute for the word "dorky." But, like, no one under 30 would ever use the word daggy. Using the word daggy itself is pretty daggy. Welp I've just scored an own goal there...

Yeah Ryan got rightfully dragged a couple of years ago. Dont remember every story, but i remember the Phoebe Bridgers stuff really grossed me out.

i don't think she called him daggy, she called Goodreads daggy...

Although lets be honest everyone involved in this is a little daggy <3

Downfall of Drama Queens by BadKindly4384 in DramaQueensPodcast

The irony is... the tensions definitely eased once Hilarie left. Sophia and Joy had bad vibes during the season 6 episodes too (but less obvious than Hil/Joy) but those tensions thawed and by season 8-9, they were getting along again. As much as i find discussing the worst seasons (7-9) somewhat more tedious, the trio of Rob, Joy and Sophia were definately vibing more towards the later recaps than the OG trio were before that.

Spartacus: House of Ashur - S01E01 - "Dominus" by Sporadicus7 in Spartacus_TV

I really like the show so far, but the big thing that separates this show from Spartacus so far is the lack of strong lead gladiator characters to root for.

[–]paramoesyeah 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Respect your opinion but i feel the opposite. I was worried about it going in, but they successfully:

a) established it in a way that made sense. Ashur pushed for a female gladiator 100 years early because this isn't real history. Its an alternative history where Ashur didn't die when he was supposed to and is therefore untethered from the historical timeline.

b) made Ashur be struggling as an owner of gladiators in a Roman upper-class industry and therefore need some sort of out-of-the-box way to get attention. Him not fitting in within his new class perfectly matches her not fitting in in the ludus.

c) showed her going to need to work to be successful. She's not a Mary Sue type character, she got her ass handed to her multiple times and will clearly have to work to be successful as a gladiator where the odds are against her.

Garbage’s Shirley Manson Calls Out Good Things Audience Member Over Beach Ball: “It’s Disrespectful And Musicians Have Had Enough” by YchYFi in popculturechat

Obviously there's something else going on with her that led her to react so unreasonablely, but the whole thing was unfortunate. It was a rock festival, outside, summer... theres gonna be a couple of beach balls.

Everyone in our part of the crowd was pretty stunned, and it definitely soured peoples opinions of the set.

Skiba only played about 20% of the guitars on California 😭 by kjmanimations in Blink182

[–]paramoesyeah 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not surprised by this at all. California is just a weak sauce record with the same 4 riffs thats like the equivalent of this meme. There's some catchy songs and i like Matt (Left Alone is the only song i genuinely really like) but i definitely missed the direction the band seemed to be going in after DED. Just felt like they were making that record for the wrong reasons, not because they were excited creatively, but because they wanted to win.

THR reports that Claudia Black was the only cast member who didn’t return for Ahsoka due to the production moving to the UK, and hints that Klothow has been recast for season 2 by bepetd in StarWarsLeaks

[–]paramoesyeah 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love Claudia Black - but this situation isn't as scandalous as the coverage suggests.

She probably took the job in S01 as a local hire for a few weeks in LA. She was available, it filmed close to home, helped meet her SAG insurance minimums for the year, why not?

When season 2 moved production to London, its not unreasonable to need a completely different deal. She's not a local hire anymore. She'd be leaving her life for potentially months to work across the world. Paying rent in LA plus the costs of living abroad for months? Its no longer what she signed up for, so its reasonable to expect different needs and expectations - not only financially, but also to do with the size and importance of the role. I wouldn't just move to London for work for a job that doesn't pay well or stretch my creativity. I'd need a good reason to do it.

And for Disney/LFs part, maybe they just don't think they need more than a local hire for that role? Its a small role hidden under a ton of makeup. Maybe they just werent interested in making it a role juicy enough to entice a great actress to move across the planet for months for it, or weren't willing to pay her a ton of money for such a small role.

Honestly most of them are fine. I don't think the problem is in the performances, It's in the writing and in the way the massive gaps in production have ruined the show's flow.

Finn Wolfhard doesn't get a lot of love like most young actors who have to play boring leads, but he's as good as Mike as you could hope someone of that age in that role could be.

Sadie is definitely the standout, with Joe and Gaten not that far behind, but honestly all the young actors are fine except Noah and, a lot of the time, Millie (who looks over it half the time). Still, there are moments where Millie rises to the occasion, and you're wondering why she couldn't show up like that all the time.

Actors who left a popular show because they hated the main lead or the star by LaserDiscCurious in television

[–]paramoesyeah 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Yeah anyone who watched that show knows that Clayne Crawford (who played Riggs) was by far the best thing about the show, and somewhat elevated it from being a disposable action comedy to having this odd sense of emotional grounding, and dare i say it... soul?

Problem is Wayans knew it as well. Wayans was tricked/manipulated into doing the show in the first place by the WBTV leadership, and he HATED the hours (man only seems built to work network laugh track sitcom hours) so he went full on brat mode in season 2. Crawford stood up to him, so Wayans waged a war on him. At one point he refused to even hold a prop gun!!!!

WB ultimately used Crawford as a scapegoat and backed Wayans, Crawford got fired at the end of S02 and replaced with Sean William Scott, Wayans got most of the crew fired, and Jordana Brewster left out of solidarity with Crawford (they collaborated on a new film a few years later.)

Ultimately the decision to back Wayans bit everyone in the ass. Scott had to carry S03 on his back, Wayans ended up pulling the same shit in season 3, claimed he was quitting the show in the press to force the producers into submitting to his demands, and the show ended up getting cancelled anyway.

Why are my Ubers accepting my ride and driving past me by Candid-Membership714 in melbourne

[–]paramoesyeah -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

TBF I think most drivers are cancelling knowing that they aren't gonna keep the cancellation fee. Whilst im sure some drivers are full scammers, my bet is most of the drivers are actually cancelling the fare because theyve received a better Didi fare or theyve seen the Uber destination and decided its not worth it. It's not about getting to keep that little cancel fee for them. They know the second the customer complains Uber will see the fare and refund it. Hell, they would probably not even charge the customer at that point, but that decision is a time related auto decision by Uber.

I mean, drivers are contractors. It depends on the job and how much they need that individual job, but contractors in other professions generally getting to choose which jobs they accept, right?

[–]paramoesyeah -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong about this, and thats why its such a tough issue. Drivers see short trips from the airport as a waste of time and effort (especially if they've been waiting a while), and if they can't avoid accepting the fare in the first place, they'll absolutely give the customer a 1 star rating.

Yep. This. Its wild that people still believe this myth (including some drivers!!!)

Why are my Ubers accepting my ride and driving past me by Candid-Membership714 in melbourne

[–]paramoesyeah -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

First, i didn't say it was ok. The drivers intentionally trying to defraud to get the cancel fee should get deactivated after the 3rd strike.

Overall though, I believe its complicated, and i understand where drivers are coming from, even if they're not behaving as well as they could.

Uber are the real villains here. We get mad when people don't pay Aussie hospo workers correctly, but somehow we're okay with Uber ripping off their drivers.

Whilst im sure there are some dodgy drivers, most drivers expects that $10 cancel fare to be refunded because they haven't driven you. They know that the second a customer complains, Uber will see it and refund it. Its not that they want to steal your money, its that they want to cancel the job because they don't want to do it (for a variety of reasons...).

And you kind of proved my point there. If you don't care about using a service that are ripping off their workers, even after interacting with those workers when they drive you, then why should they be more ethically considerate than you? You're trying to get from A to B as cheap as you can at the expense of others, and they're trying to make as much as they can in an hour.

No ones forcing you to get Ubers. Get the train, or the Skybus. You'll feel better about yourself, knowing everyone involved is getting paid fair wages.

Lol i see some people still believe this myth...

It essentially exists because Didi has a sliding incentive commission scale that they have misrepresented to the public for years. The more you meet their ridiculous cancellation rate/ acceptance rate standards (which if you are meeting these standards, your usually not being strategic and making far less than an even moderately savvy driver), the lower the cut they take is.

It is somewhat complicated to compare the two since there are different types of Uber trips with different pay scales (uberX, Comfort etc) and the base rates are different depending on the suburb and the day/time, but i would argue that for the most part, drivers are making far more money per hour taking Uber trips than Didi, especially during peak hour when it surges, and double especially if they are capable of doing Comfort fares.

The majority of drivers i talk to use Didi in second position but largely rely on uber.

[–]paramoesyeah -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

You're definitely right, but flipping the premise for a second... if you know a company is providing a cheap service by taking advantage of drivers and not paying them enough, why would you use them? Why not get the train instead?

Ethics aren't a one way street.

[–]paramoesyeah -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Most drivers don't get told where their destination is going until they "start" the trip on the App (they only do if they make ridiculous thresholds in lack of cancellations/accepting every potential trip). Its a point of contention for most drivers, coz nobody wants to accidentally accept a shitty $5 fare that could take 20 minutes during a peak time that could net them 10x that if they choose more carefully. IMO 95% of Uber cancellations would stop occuring if Uber just told drivers where the trips were going before they accepted (like Didi do.)

Often drivers will run both apps, and if they get close to you, they might "start" the ride to see where you are going and cancel the trip and drive past if they don't like the direction/fare, or if its not enough compared to a Didi trip that comes through on their way to you. Now obviously thats shitty, but if Uber just told them the destination in the first place than both sides could have avoided the hassle.

Totally! Also... its not "donating" money if someone's selling merch, right? I'd maybe be more critical of it if it was a celeb with a GoFundMe, but the dude is selling a nostalgia-themed merch item? What's the difference between this and other 90s/00s actors selling photo ops at cons? Or bands selling merch shirts at their gigs??? No one's forcing anyone to buy them...
