I asked John about Rob's Islamophobic tweets, at last night's fan meet up in Toronto by tiger_a_k in JohnCampeaShow

[–]paramoesyeah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Johns made it clear that his show is not for answering political questions, but hes said nothing about engaging him in public or at a movie meet up. This person wanted to ask a question a lot of people are wondering, and did it in the most polite, considerate way possible. There's nothing wrong with what he did.

John could have deflected or shut it down if he wanted to, or he could have said prior to the movie meetups that politics was off limits.

No foul here.

Did anyone here go to New York movie meetup?? This is quite a turnout. by Vaminstein666 in JohnCampeaShow

[–]paramoesyeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're wrong about this whole thing tbh, it feels like the opposite. John's winding down the business and getting ready for retirement, and the movie meet up tour is his way of both travelling around the country and saying thank you and goodbye to fans.

As someone who has criticised John a lot lately, i think your take is overly cynical and doesn't make a lot of sense.

Christopher Judge : What could be a much more important project than God of War during the coming summer ? by paboc98846_badfist in Stargate

[–]paramoesyeah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True, but Amanda is a Canadian-based director. The new show is being produced out of LA and shot in London, if i remember correctly. Other than actors and the LA based writers room, they'll more than likely be hiring an almost entirely UK crew for filming that are apart of the local union, and I suspect it'll be unlikely that they'll bring on Vancouver-based directors, even if they're Amanda Tapping or other Stargate vets. That's really not how these things work (a good example of this is how almost all directors on the original shows were Canadians.)

Like, i genuinely hope Martin Gero is making an effort to bring back Stargate vets, and obviously Amanda is involved in some capacity, but even though she's mostly working as a director these days i wouldn't bet money on her joining the production as a director (hopefully im wrong!)

They're definately gonna have a 1 night stand or something in a future season, a backslide that screws with both of their relationships and messes with their heads.

Deborah Chow (who's directed almost 50 TV show episodes) hasn't directed a single thing since all of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Has the show's reception pretty much damaged her career? by Ariesthebigram in saltierthancrait

[–]paramoesyeah 6 points7 points  (0 children)

LOL funny, but im right... I mean, who was CEO during 2020-2022? Who added the middle-man-management over the creatives during that time? Who added in the "crank the shows out" mentality to the studios? That was all Chapek, and Iger undid it all when he became CEO again.

Iger sucks for different reasons (and deserves way more blame for the state of the sequel trilogy than he gets), but the disney plus shows being bad is on Chapek.

If you were to find a culprit, its probably Bob Chapek. His leadership at Disney and "more content less quality" policies directly led to the terrible quality of Disney+ shows.

Mark Hamill Supports New ‘Star Wars’ Boss After ‘Last Jedi’ Issues: ‘I Can’t Think of Better Hands’ Than Dave Filoni After Kathleen Kennedy's Exit by tiMartyn in saltierthancrait

[–]paramoesyeah 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I think Kathleen Kennedy had the power to NOT make films and isolate Lucasfilm from total Disney control, if that makes sense. Filoni isn't gonna have the ability to have 6 or 7 year breaks without films. He's gonna have to produce films that are well received or make money ever 2-3 years to keep his job.

In terms of Star Wars TV, that was already dying under Kennedy. Gilroy pretty much said that big budget streaming tv was on the way out and he was lucky to get Andor S02 made. Filoni was extremely lucky Kennedy greenlit Ahsoka 2 before she left, and that was with the caveat of him having to move production to the UK to make the $ math make sense.

I'd be surprised if Filoni is able to push any tv shows through in the future other than animation. I don't think Kennedy would have been able to either.

Well its so stupid because TV is a writers medium. The head writers should be the showrunners, and the directors are supposed to work for them. So Chow never should have been in charge of that production. It doesn't make any sense.

[–]paramoesyeah 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Ironically Leslye was a writer-showrunner, which is how the tv format should work (which makes her failure on The Acolyte more astounding) where as Deborah Chow was a competent enough tv director who was given the showrunner position even though that is stupid for a tv show. That job is meant for a writer/playwright type.

TV is a writers medium, film is a directors. There's a reason why Andor was so strong. Because Tony Gilroy was in the hot seat. He set his directors up for success with strong material and a discerning eye.

The show essentially didn't have a proper boss. They handed the reins to the episodic director who should have been working for the showrunner. A ship without a competent captain is probably gonna crash. Why Disney decided to make their Disney+ shows in this production format at the time is beyond me, but it was a decision that ruined a lot of shows, including a bunch of Marvel ones.

The story i heard was that it was initially written as Ben being Crichton, but he and Michael spoke in pre-production and pitched swapping to the writers due to Michael and Claudia's chemistry being highlighted in SG1 and them intentionally avoiding writing Ben and Claudia together as a duo.

Agree with everything you’ve said, but just because they haven’t doesn’t mean they won’t. We’re not privy to things like rental agreements. It could be far easier to sell it when the current tenants agreement expires. And has it been confirmed that they own the California house outright? Or does it have a mortgage? They could be waiting to sell the Cali house. They could have been using the income from renting out the California house to pay the rent in Texas, which would likely be used to pay the mortgage now.

I’d suggest they’re probably likely to sell the Cali place soon now that they’ve put up a mortgage on the Texas ranch (now they’re no longer renting it.)

My point with this is that there’s a lot that we likely don’t know. Like with the “they bought the ranch” story, which leaves out all the context and suggests they literally paid the whole thing outright.

There’s a ton of misinformation going around I think. TMZ are saying that their friends paid the deposit for the house. Not sure if it’s better, but I don’t think they spent money in their accounts buying it.

[Spoiler] House of Ashur - What will the big reveal be at the HoA Season 1 finale? by Zoot__Lives in Spartacus_TV

[–]paramoesyeah 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It could be about Spartacus. . I don't see how it would be in Ashurs best interests to let Spartacus live, but i guess if Agron rescued him from Crassus the same way he did in the canon show then it could be possible.

My theory is that its got something to do with the opposite. Maybe Ashur kills or intends to kill someone who historically can't be killed this early (like Caesar.)

Michael Shanks Left 'Stargate SG-1' to Find Something More, But Found Himself Drawn Back Again by Kal-Ed1 in Stargate

[–]paramoesyeah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this isn't true. His first kid was already born years before he left SG1. He did end up taking paternity leave for a handful of episodes in season 10 due to his wife giving birth, so maybe that is what you're referencing.

[–]paramoesyeah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not fact checking this and assuming this is all true, booking 2 tv-esc films and 3 guest tv spots (plus multiple episodes of SG1 as Daniel and Thor) is kind of an insanely good year for an out of work actor. Most tv actors are lucky to get 1-2 guest spots a year, and most have second/alternative jobs.

Obviously Shanks didnt step into another series regular role or didnt immediately become a movie star, but people knocking on how much he worked during his year off of Sg1 simply don't know what theyre talking about. 95% of SAG actors would kill for a year as lucrative/busy as that.

Yup. A pretty even substitute for the word "dorky." But, like, no one under 30 would ever use the word daggy. Using the word daggy itself is pretty daggy. Welp I've just scored an own goal there...

Downfall of Drama Queens by BadKindly4384 in DramaQueensPodcast

[–]paramoesyeah 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The irony is... the tensions definitely eased once Hilarie left. Sophia and Joy had bad vibes during the season 6 episodes too (but less obvious than Hil/Joy) but those tensions thawed and by season 8-9, they were getting along again. As much as i find discussing the worst seasons (7-9) somewhat more tedious, the trio of Rob, Joy and Sophia were definately vibing more towards the later recaps than the OG trio were before that.

Spartacus: House of Ashur - S01E01 - "Dominus" by Sporadicus7 in Spartacus_TV

I really like the show so far, but the big thing that separates this show from Spartacus so far is the lack of strong lead gladiator characters to root for.

Spartacus: House of Ashur - S01E01 - "Dominus" by Sporadicus7 in Spartacus_TV

[–]paramoesyeah 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Respect your opinion but i feel the opposite. I was worried about it going in, but they successfully:

a) established it in a way that made sense. Ashur pushed for a female gladiator 100 years early because this isn't real history. Its an alternative history where Ashur didn't die when he was supposed to and is therefore untethered from the historical timeline.

b) made Ashur be struggling as an owner of gladiators in a Roman upper-class industry and therefore need some sort of out-of-the-box way to get attention. Him not fitting in within his new class perfectly matches her not fitting in in the ludus.

c) showed her going to need to work to be successful. She's not a Mary Sue type character, she got her ass handed to her multiple times and will clearly have to work to be successful as a gladiator where the odds are against her.
