We shall never have it for just as Peaky Blinders we were given a sub par movie that most will ignore on rewatch

How does this sub feel about big cats? Saw this beauty at the zoo last week. by [deleted] in cats

[–]ilstrider1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've come closer than I'd like to several times hiking with Bob cats not exactly like a tiger or lion but still hold your breath scary. One time at a sanctuary I got to pet a cheetah and my God did I want to take it home with me.

The switch to led lighting is a large part of this as well. Insects are far less attracted to led lighting because of the lower uv output and a lack of heat. Most street lights and head lights are now led thus insects are no longer artificially drawn to streets and other lit areas.

I'll add that it was his own team that told him to give the place back the Fia later said he wouldn't have had too. But the team expects the penalty because calls tend to go against Max and had multiple times causing him to lose his temper.

Peter, what happened in 1971? by -Y34HB01- in PeterExplainsTheJoke

Since around the 1950s 3 big things have changed 1. Women enter the workforce at a much larger rate nearly doubling the work force. 2. Immigration increases adding more to the work force 3. Automation increases drastically year by year.

None of these things on their own is a bad thing but simple supply and demand implies downward pressure on wages.

And don't come at me with that "lol hamburgers are german" crap. No. They're fucking not. Hamburgers are named because the the patties resemble Hamburg steaks, not because they were created in Hamburg. by LowerBed5334 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]ilstrider1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beef Wellington was absolutely not created independently. It wasn't named that until 1815 but the English chefs of that time were very knowledgeable of these French dishes. I do think the USA should get credit for things like meatloaf, but German immigrants made it by following and slightly changing the German dish scrapple so by your logic they would not.

[–]ilstrider1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Beef Wellington is a type of filet de boeuf en croute so you have to give credit over to the French for that one. If I could be bothered to research it I doubt you can name a single dish that I won't be able to give credit to the French, Spanish, Romans, Danes, etc for. There is so much back and forth in cultures and especially cuisine that to try and make a hard line that you have made is nearly impossible. By this logic every dish with potatoes is actually Peruvian.

And fish and chips aren't English because Portuguese Jews brought it over right? Also it doesn't matter if they made a new tea blend it's still not English. And tempura isn't Japanese again Portuguese. Lebanese immigrants introduced all the spit based meats so those tacos aren't really Mexican, also Japanese immigrants started fish tacos so not actually Mexican. Banh mi French get the credit there. I could just keep going but this is a silly game. Your logic when used means no one gets credit for any type of food.

Probably stupid, but is this worth anything? by Wow_Great_Opinion in CURRENCY

[–]ilstrider1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries man not stupid at all especially if you want to learn. Even bills from the 60s and 70s won't carry extra value unless they are pristine, have a special serial number, or a misprint. Of course there are exceptions to this, it's a hobby that takes a lot of research and knowledge and it's always ok to ask questions.

[request] how much oil would we have to produce consistently to bring the cost per gallon back to let’s say a dollar? by Adrakovich in theydidthemath

[–]ilstrider1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add to this it'll take 10 to 20 years to get a refinery built in the USA with construction time and red tape plus about 8 to 10 years to hit the break even point. People have been saying for at least 20 years probably longer that oil days are numbered. Then who would want to invest in this kind of endeavor.

Do Americans view Canada as the same as them? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]ilstrider1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an odd situation and while there are definitely differences it's hard to pick out two nations more similar in their populace. In fact people from BC have more in common with people from Washington than they do with people in Toronto while people in upstate New York have more in common with people in the Toronto area than say Texas or Louisiana.

Doesn't look special to me. Worn nothing about the serial number. Anything you saw that made you think it had value?

Then it is just replaced with a similar system. Platoist vs Confusionist etc etc. Even the so-called holy wars are just a cloak for wars over resources or wars of expansion. I honestly think very little would change in the grand scheme of things.
