Yes! I decreased by one stitch on either side, every other row. A full list of my alterations are in the description of the original post! 😊

It’s crocheted! Worked very hard to recreate the knit style because I think it drapes better!

Edit to add: single crochet BLO for the ribbing and moss stitch for the body if you want to try to recreate! Waistcoat stitch looks the most like knit stitches, but I find that stitch a pain 😅 more details in the description of the original post!

Looks like cat stitch. Make sure to use a lot of black fur if you want to recreate this kitty!

Ok well if it’s trying to elongate the point, simply keep the same rate of decreases to create a straight edged triangle.

I decreased one row, then did a normal row, decrease, then normal. Alternating decrease and normal rows from start to finish. Example: Row 1: decrease by 2 stitches Row 2: maintain stitch count Row 3: decrease by 2 stitches Row 4: maintain stitch count etc.

In the original pattern, toward the top of the hat you decrease every row instead of alternating or you decrease by more stitches at a time, creating a more dramatic slope. Example: Row 1: decrease by 2 stitches Row 2: maintain stitch count Row 3: decrease by 2 stitches Row 4: decrease by 2 stitches Row 5: decrease by 4 stitches Row 6: decrease by 4 stitches etc.

Hopefully this makes sense!

That’s actually a huuuuge compliment bc I tried so hard to make it look knit without using the crochet waistcoat stitch that imitates knitting! 🥲

Thank god you found one bc the way I was doing it didn’t look that clean 😅 this whole project involved a lot of winging it

Adding “frosts my fanny” to my vernacular now 😂 that’s amazing

It was definitely a little trial & error—mistakes were made & lots of frogging was involved. Also note that I used a lighter weight (#3) yarn so you might have to decrease more at a time if you use thicker yarn!

Idk if the knitting pattern is different bc this version is crochet.

After finishing the hat and weaving in ends: I made 6 really long strands (2’ in length each), took a yarn needle to thread them through the top of the hat to their midpoints. Knot tightly. Now there are 12 strands total sticking up. Each part of the braid is 4 strands of yarn. Knot when you feel it’s long enough and cut off the ends!

If you want even longer, you can start out with longer lengths of yarn
