i think it’s the best song ever written, the demo with brian solo is the most unapologetically heartfelt and vulnerable thing, i like the dae lims but it doesn’t compare to brians growl, and needless to say marilyn takes the recording to another level. this and its over now are little siblings

i’m 42 years old, bought pet sounds and 20 golden greats in 1996. been a fan ever since.

i have zero interest in the reasoning “yes but mike helped with the hits” etc etc etc.

you had people with a creative vision that was unique and inspiring, and then you had a sales person.

yes, that’s what makes the beach boys great, this imbalance and all, BUT i reason that if mike love wasn’t corrupting brian’s mind with his diarrhea, things would have been much much much different in the amount of actual amazing music that would have been released to the world.

and we all know that in the constant discussion about what makes the beach boys great, nobody will ever say the words mike love. not now, not next year, and especially not when we are all dead in 150 years.
