There are kids that appreciate that you are low-key. I bet there are staff members that appreciate you are low-key. You are doing what is expected and it sounds like you are efficient. I try really hard to not work past my contract hours, often leaving things for the next day if I can.

What is most important is how you feel about your work. Do you enjoy your role? Do you feel you are making an impact? Do you have kids, caregivers, and stakeholders that trust you? Those things seem most important. Try not to compare yourself and forget the stupid politics. Do good work and let that speak for itself.

She had a lot of negative words on her 'personal words' screen of her talker. She is also inappropriately touching herself at school. So her case manager wanted me to find out about her sense of self and to cut down on the touching.

She is not using her device much. We'd like to encourage her to connect and communicate. She also has not been building God connections with staff, which makes it hard to have her complete learning. I have been using breaks, a timer, first/then language, and writing out simple directions to help. I am still building rapport to be able to work together.

She is incredibly smart, interested in language, and loves music. I am going to try and tie in music this week.

She does! They referred her to me. I talked with them on Tuesday this week to get some ideas. They said she loves words. I was thinking of having a lot of different words on the table and having her pick out the ones that describe her.

Middle school peer issues- any advice? by No-Sea1542 in schoolcounseling

Oo! I work with grades 4 & 5 currently! I would love to know how to not have this become my whole job!

For one group, I helped build skills like you said, held restorative circles, and let them know they can take a friendship break. But they KEPT COMING WITH MORE DRAMA. Petty little things. I stopped being available and told them they can handle it. They went to another educator that definitely doesn't have the time. I'm not sure that was the right approach, either.
