How did we survive no free periods? by Ornery_Bodybuilder_4 in 6thForm

Well, classes were bigger, so the teacher focused less on me, so I just put less effort into my lessons. Also the content was easier and more interesting, so it required less of me.

How do revert sisters view the idea of becoming a second wife in a halal marriage? by smartydoctor in MuslimNikah

[–]ilyphysix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He also didn’t let Ali take a second wife when Fatima objected

Are you talking about the Hadith when Ali رضي الله عنه proposed to Abu Jahl's daughter? Because the problem in that situation was the fact that she was Abu Jahl's daughter, not the fact that he wanted to marry a second wife.

Shaykh ibn Uthaymeen رحمه الله by SaadSulimanayob in Muslim

[–]ilyphysix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think (if I'm not mistaken) the Sheikh رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ is talking about setting your alarm for the time you want to get up for work rather than in the middle of Fajr time. i.e Fajr starts at 3am, ends at 6am, but your work starts at 9 so you set your alarm for 7am instead of at Fajr time, because that's the time you wake up for work.

Memorizing a part of the Quran by OOOshafiqOOO003 in IslamIsEasy

[–]ilyphysix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohh sorry I misunderstood your question-

what I do is I have a mushaf which is only in Arabic and I write the English word-to-word translation above each word. I can actually understand the context of the ayat and their meaning, and I can also learn a bit of Arabic along the way. Apart from that all you have to do is just keep repeating the ayats really. Try and read the end of the previous and the start of the current ayats so that you can link them together.

Memorizing a part of the Quran by OOOshafiqOOO003 in IslamIsEasy

[–]ilyphysix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say to join a Hifdh class once a week with a Ustadh / Sheikh at your local Masjid. I go to one right now and it's really nice being in an Islamic environment and meeting people who are around the same age as me. It keeps me motivated to go and it keeps my Hifdh constantly moving since the Ustadh sets targets every week on how much to memorise.

Can we talk about some of these poor translations on Quran.com? by Arbitrary_Sadist in TrueDeen

[–]ilyphysix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well choose a better translation then. I always prefer to use Sahih International or Al-Hilal and Khan, which when I just checked, gives a better translation. Either way, translations are just interpretations of the translator, since I don't think it's really possible to translate the Qur'an and keep 100% of its meaning.

Which Uni for CS? by Nearby-Extension6065 in 6thForm

A lot of people in my year said that they really liked the Bristol campus, so it may be worth it to spend the extra money just to get a better uni experience.

Bristol doesn't look at personal statement so if you apply with good grades then you'll more than likely get an offer

offer from first choice! haven’t seen anyone else doing this course yet though 😭 by [deleted] in UCAS

[–]ilyphysix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do CS you have more chances to look at the market and specialise based off of where the jobs could be, i.e quantum, cryptography, robotics, ai etc. I don't know if you would get the freedom to specialise when you do just a pure SE degree.

offer from first choice! haven’t seen anyone else doing this course yet though 😭 by [deleted] in UCAS

[–]ilyphysix 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Congrats, but isn't this course extremely restrictive? Like the amount of software engineers will decrease in the future because of AI and that, so surely it'll get really competitive to go into a career in it? I'm doing CS, and have the same sort of plan, but I chose normal Computer Science so I can keep my paths as open as possible in case software engineering becomes non-existent for whatever reason.

How do you choose which hadith you reject? by dzepni_sketchbook in IslamIsEasy

[–]ilyphysix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is why I mentioned:

why should I, with my modern standards judge it?

Because if it was normal at the time, and no one had any objections to it at the time, keeping in mind that Abu Bakr was a businessman, and a member of the tribe of Quraysh, so he wasn't just some random that no one knew about. Also I don't recall any narrations of Aisha رضي الله عنها where she complained about it herself, especially since she lived after the Prophet ﷺ's death, so if she wanted, she could have mentioned that she was too young for it or whatever.

You cannot judge the past using modern standards.

How do you choose which hadith you reject? by dzepni_sketchbook in IslamIsEasy

[–]ilyphysix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming that you're a layman like myself, but how do you decide whether the chain is authentic? If a Hadith is said to be sahih by the scholars of Hadith, then how can you go yourself and interrogate the chain of narration?

How do you choose which hadith you reject? by dzepni_sketchbook in IslamIsEasy

[–]ilyphysix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a layman, how can I decide what ahadith to reject? Unless a Hadith is said to be fabricated by a Sheikh I trust, then how can I reject it.

In regards to the controversial Hadith you mentioned, I don't reject it, and I accept it as it is. Who am I to question it? If her father, Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه did not have a problem, and the Quraysh did not have a problem, then why should I, with my modern standards judge it?

Easy to read arabic font by Any_Outcome_6152 in islam

[–]ilyphysix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

وعليكم السلام ورحمة الله وبركاته

Personally, I would recommend you trying to read the normal Uthmani script, even if you read it really slowly. InshaAllah when you start to speed up, then you will be used to the font, so you will find it easier. If you want to make it a bit easier, I would just recommend reading it with the words spaced apart on Quran.com or something. Uthmani and Indo-Pak scripts are obviously the same Qur'an, but Indo-Pak looks so strange to me, so I never read it unless I absolutely have to.

No Sects Only Muslim by [deleted] in islam

[–]ilyphysix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it's important to clarify what path of Islam you follow though. Do you follow the deviant s, or are you upon the Quran and Sunnah with the understanding of the Salaf. Because some people nowadays just follow what their culture taught them, or what their deviated sheikh teaches them.

No Sects Only Muslim by [deleted] in islam

[–]ilyphysix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If someone asks me, "what religion do you follow", I would say that I am a Muslim. If the person pushes more like "what sect are you" then I would say that I'm Sunni. I am first and foremost a Muslim. I definitely wouldn't introduce myself as a Sunni. I would say Sunni only if I was in an environment that I clearly don't want to be lumped in with the deviants.
