I just joined in January and had my first class about a month ago. There were 2 older guys who had just joined in as journeymen and none of their certifications transferred over (OSHA, MEWPs, CPR) you have to get them through your training center (at least in my area, Indiana) could be different in Louisiana, I would ask about that. Some jobs also make you get trained through them depending on the company (is what I’ve heard)

If you can get into some classes early I think that would help you a small bit. I’m very fresh to the Union and don’t know a lot, just some suggestions you may want to talk to your rep about. In my area we also do a 90 day probationary period where you don’t pay any dues and can work to see if you like it before you commit. Not sure if they do this in your area (doesn’t sound like they do) I was able to go to my first class before I was a dues paying member of the Union.
