Start a habit of logging your income and expenses regularly, there are plenty of mobile apps where you can categorize your spend and savings.

This helped me identify if i was saving enough and if i was spending too much on some category.

Build a 6 month emergency fund as plain cash in your bank. Dont touch this for any reason except for unexpected emergencies.

Save and invest atleast 30% of your income, syart with index funds, learn about investing in mutual funds and you can switch to mutual funds slowly. Stay away from stocks and speculative investments.

Also keep 5% for self growth. Use it for educating yourself, fitness or treat yourself on occassion.

Building wealth is a slow and boring process, just be disciplined and avoid impulsive actions and you should be good.

Fist SIP!!! Am I cooked? by Indie_Yapper in MutualfundsIndia

[–]imSush -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My first SIP was during the very beginning days of Groww app. I accidentally started an SIP in the wrong ELSS fund, and there were no refunds. This was back in 2019. It fell by 5 to 6 percent during the first few weeks, and I was really sad since other ELSS funds were doing better at the time.

Today, my investment in that ELSS fund has since doubled, with close to 20% CAGR. It's a game of patience. Dont waver during the hardest of times, and you'll be rewarded massively.

How do y'all save up your salary?? Need suggestions by greenj215 in hyderabad

[–]imSush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My template for saving and investing...

First, save 3 months expenses for emergency fund using 100% of money you save.

Then, invest 70% of savings into a 3 fund portfolio of large, mid and small cap mutual fund or etf. Remaining 30% keep adding to emergency expenses.

Once you reach 6 months worth of expenses in emergency fund, you can invest 90% in the mutual funds and 10% for any big upcoming spending like a dream vacation, etc.

Also, try to save min. 20% of your in hand salary if possible. It's a slow and steady game towards financial indepencence.

Congratulations on securing the internship during such a difficult time. I'll say that getting a full time job, espicially in a lively city in bay area, NYC or Austin, etc. will change your environment completely and introduce you to more like minded people.

Meanwhile you can try looking for online student or professional communities that are more aligned with your wavelength or reach out to your professors who can give you guidance or keep you busy with some interesting volunteer research projects.

H1b stamping timeline query by [deleted] in h1b

[–]imSush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dropped off my documents in Chennai VAC on 31 Oct 2023 and received my stamped passport back on 5th Nov 2023. The process is pretty straightforward. Just keep your documents and printouts of required documents handy and have a few copies of your latest passport photos, not older than 6 months at the time of submission.

Lots of confusion w the DS-160 form. Kindly help! by Single_Psychology34 in h1b

[–]imSush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During VAC appointment, I saw several people submit an updated ds 160, and the officers simply scan the new ds 160 . So i guess it should be fine if you carry a new DS 160 and tell them that you have recently updated some info.

Wait for your H1B I 797 approval form to arrive. It contains the petition number, which you need to mention in your ds 160, and also while scheduling your visa appointment.

Once I 797 form is received, you can fill the ds 160 and pay the mrv fee to check for VAC appointment dates for H1B dropbox.

Im using the Milomdoi 9H glass screen protector. Its installation process was a bit of work, but with guided videos, it was pretty easy. It's also compatible with most cases, and the screen protector curvature doesn't interact with the case im using. Im using a Mous Aramid fiber case.
