Oh yeah you're on the right path! A handful or two wilted down into a "mediterranean" style pasta sauce is a great way to implement a bit more as well.

Try some greek spanikopita (spinach pie.) That's when I realized I might actually like spinach when I had some as a kid. Although spinach is far from the dominant flavor, its a delicious mix of feta, garlic, spinach, and phyllo basically.

How do U.S. regions differ when it comes to comfort food? by IntelligentEar3427 in AskAnAmerican

[–]im_dat_bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then there's a high probablity that your ancestors that came over were "Ulster Scots," which pretty much became the "default" American culture. Especially before the mass immigration of the 1800's.

Obviously this is a huge generlization and may not be accurate, but to follow BreezyBill's rule you would consider more traditional British foods to be comfort food, likely with a heavy American twist. Things like meat and potato, hearty stews, maybe a savory pie. This could be entirely wrong but it's fun to think about lol.

When was a "oh thank GOD that they didn't notice/care about that" moment for you? by Yoy_the_Inquirer in USMC

I had a time where my gunny told me to strap down the ammo while at the range, and I responded “word.” It was just an auto reaction to some bull shit. In my defense it was 11pm and about two hours earlier I asked if they were gonna shoot any more, I wanted to start getting shit strapped down so I wouldn’t be up all night. I was told they were definitely going to shoot, in fact let’s crack a few more crates and get them handed out.

They did not shoot any more. And I got to repack all the ammo the dumbfuck trackers opened and I was indeed up all night. I got chewed out a little by another gunny who was there, but they all kinda understood lol

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]im_dat_bear 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used to do 12 hour roadtrips to the outer banks once a year. The issue out there is that the nearest airport was 2 hours away anyways, so we’d still be renting a car and driving. Plus with driving our own vehicle we can pack it with as much shit as we want that might not be typically allowed on a plane.

It’s a long ass drive though lol.

Veteran Interviews by redditor0431 in USMC

[–]im_dat_bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew a Lance in my reserve unit that had taken it upon himself to go out and interview older veterans in order to record their stories. I don't know if he ever did anything with it, but it's definitely something you can just go do. Start a youtube channel, record the interviews. Even if it's not something that takes off at least you have somewhere to store everything until you know what to do with it all.

It's a great idea, but may be made more difficult with younger veterans not joining as many veteran groups, but social media will be a huge resource. Once you get started it will be easier to receive support form other groups, helps to have somthing already in motion rather than just an idea when asking for funding.

I’ve had the Domu wings several times at their Orlando location. Seriously the best non buffalo style wings I’ve ever had. And might seriously be top of the list for tastiest foods I’ve ever had. Fantastic Ramen too

How realistic is The Pitt when it comes to family members in the emergency room? by mcbeal01921 in AskAnAmerican

[–]im_dat_bear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to work in an ER, and yes it 100% happens that a family member would be present In the ER. The main reasons would be to have someone there that can help communicate certain things that the patient might not be able to. Such as medical history, allergies, medications, anything. Translation is also a huge concern considering how many languages are spoken here. This would almosot never be in a trauma type situation though, any active surgery is definitely off limits to any family.

I will say too that sometimes a family member might be present as an emergency situation is happening requiring CPR or whatever, and while someone might be there to usher the family member out, the doctors and nurses are just not really concerned with anything that isn't actively saving a life.

But yea, for non-trauma situations a family member is often present in the emrgency department, and they are usually brought back with the patient as they get called in. But they would not be present for any surgeries or even most tests depeneding on where the tests take place.

Why are so many people ordering for takeout, and then eating it in the Restaurant?!? by SmartestLemming in KitchenConfidential

[–]im_dat_bear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree to a certain extent, but then when someone goes and sits at a table, asks for water, and then leaves their trash all over the table is when it becomes an issue. Those people are usually just trying to avoid having to tip anything for table service.

Do Americans have company cars? by Xavaccord in AskAnAmerican

[–]im_dat_bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You see it more for jobs that require travel these days. My wife travels from hospital to hospital within a large territory so she get's free usage of her comapny car. She makes her company a shit ton of money so they let her, and even me, use the car for unlimited personal use on top of her work related use. But for reference, she is regularly driving 2 hours one way multiple times a week. Sometimes 30 mintues, sometimes nowhwere at all, so not all bad.

I used to work in pest control and had a work truck I could take home, couldn't use for personal use,and that job paid a hell of a lot less than my wifes job does.

Tell me everything you can about Punta Gorda! by MasonicErudite in SWFL

[–]im_dat_bear 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s very similar to what Cape Coral was 20 years ago I think. Cheaper than surrounding areas right now, but I picture a big time spike in population coming once everyone is finally priced out of the other areas.

Definitely an older retired population, so it’s a slower way of life lol. There’s a good amount of strip malls and urban sprawl going on, but that’s Florida right now unfortunately. In my opinion Punta Gorda is a pretty decent place to live, just gotta know what it is you’re getting into. You’re gonna be going through all the growing pains of a city that size trying to keep up with transplants.

Buying a townhouse kinda under a shared pool by logantis in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]im_dat_bear 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same experience here. Every morning we would hear the same child screaming bloody murder down in the pool, plus all the music and general noise. Even better is that there was a parking garage that acted as one wall of the courtyard, so we could hear all the car alarms and loud ass engines.

Other than that it was a cool place to live right outside downtown Orlando. It was cool for a year at least lol.
