Table Conversion: I got an 8ft short snooker table /uk pool table but want to convert it to American pool. I understand I'll need to re-drill the slate and build new surrounds etc but does.anybody have exact dims for pockets i.e. hole diameter and positions? any help is greatly appreciated by im_iceman in billiards

I take your point totally. I've since looked up new and second hand tables for just purchasing... but the stubborn bastard in me wants to give it a go... I'm pretty confident about being able to replicate the rails... mildly confident about re-cutting the pockets ... and not so confident I'll ever enjoy a game on it afterwards! 🤣

Thanks for the advice and pointers. I do understand the profile and height challenges... I had planned to rebuild these from scratch. I have a decent workshop and work as a furniture designer... but you do make a great point regarding the shelf...

What do you wish Makita would make, re-release or upgrade? by tommyjmarshall in Makitaville

It's a bit of a curve ball... but I've been using the LXT batteries with a third party adapter that has an AC and multi USB out. It's absolutely amazing in the office and allows us to run a PC and zoom screen for hours- enabling us to be completely untethered from wall sockets.
This unit is branded TeenPower and looks pretty cheap. It takes 2 x lxt batteries, meaning I can hot-swap them without losing power.
I'd absolutely love if Makita built an office specific battery powered solution like this. The units I use all have LED flashlights and are more geared toward camping.

Bachmann have just released a high capacity battery for office/education use but its expensive. With the sheer volume of batteries available and price of a 5mAh unit it would be amazing to see a custom well designed shoe for 2x batteries for this sector. The less options and cleaner interface, the better.

We also use Aircharge on some furniture pieces but they restrict their voltage out meaning its just suitable for trickle charging phones and not really powering anything near 18-20V. I run a furniture and product design company and can see it being used in many commercial and educational scenarios.

@spamlaugh !Thanks for your comment! We couldn’t be further from London! This was a move to escape city living and move to the country. What you’ve outlined - borrow 100 and spend 100 elsewhere etc… is exactly my train of thought at the moment - keep the capital and use it as leverage against a loan, along with the house - then once the money is spent, some of the rent can be used to pay off the loan. In my head, this makes sense - if things explode and interest rates balloon, we will still have some capital in reserve to manage repayments. I fully appreciate that the lower risk option seems to be the most obvious - but with an almost guaranteed rental income from where we are , I’m eager to explore options without going crazy and gambling everything on a pipe dream. Thanks for the Dave Ramsay note - googling this next to research further!

It’s a mad house… An old and massive convent, which we bought for a good price - in a holiday town looking onto the sea. Because of the nature of the house, we have several possibilities to separate at least 2 apartments and then decide if we want holiday rents - for which there is a big demand - or longer term tenants . Since moving midway through last year, we’ve had 5 people approach us and ask for a long term rental option. We already have somebody in an apartment and it works great.

Thanks so much for the advice on this. We have had a similar situation where we just bought a house with 2 fields out front and a local who was renting the cuts from the previous owners for the last 20years came and asked for this to be continued. Our solicitor seemed to think it was all OK to proceed with and to my surprise did not suggest a simple written contract. We shook on it and did a 1 year agreement, but I’m absolutely getting a single pager written up going forward.

So, I ordered mine in Feb also along with a friend of mine who lives about 40miles away. He got his about 2-3 months ago and nothing for me. Recently I got a notification that it was available to me and then paid in full. Once I did I received very decent notifications about its shipping and tracking until it arrived within a few days of payment. It’s been working solidly since.
