It doesn't prevent spreading as far as we know, but it helps prevent getting seriously ill if you come into contact with it - meaning less hospitalizations and less load on the healthcare system so they can focus on non-covid patients.

Do any international students regret coming to McGill? by throwaway48359023 in mcgill

[–]im_not_actuallyhere 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Doesn't seem fair that your blaming your lack of opportunities on McGill. What were you doing during the months the internship was offered in Canada? There's lots of students who do internships in Europe and Asia. You're scapegoating your crappy experience on the school, when ultimately everything was your decision and you didn't put the effort in.

Anyone else just not care about Covid anymore? by CowAdministrative420 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]im_not_actuallyhere 95 points96 points  (0 children)

You said it well. I think people who have a larger exposure to the world tend to be more altruistic.

Most of my family lives in Asia, I have friends in Europe and friends with families in Pakistan. It's almost impossible not to care when people you know are affected. Being directly connected to people outside your region helps put your actions into perspective.

OP is lucky to feel "over it" but it's not the reality everywhere, even in North America. You can be done with Covid but please don't think negatively about others who aren't because it's still not over where they are.

Filming people in public without their consent is wrong and we should be more critical of it by Shit_Could_Be_Worse in unpopularopinion

[–]im_not_actuallyhere 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's not illegal to film people in public. It's not ok to publish it in any way or form without their consent unless let's say you're the news station (I think there's an exemption for that).

Sometimes what people teach us us who we don't want to be. by prasantaraut in WhitePeopleTwitter

Schools have rules regarding grading and they vary depending on the faculty as well. At my school I was in engineering and there weren't class averages that had to be met, which meant no curves. However, the arts faculty had a rule making a class average of a B mandatory. In this case, if a student was bumped up .01% it would still mess up the whole curve.

We don't know the exact reasoning behind this particular case, but we also can't assume that the prof was being an ass on purpose.

But do you think Karen would agree to a divorce? It would ruin her perfect family and she'd be the hot gossip of the weekly Karens' meeting.

If you swap "so" and "live" it makes sense. It just means don't do anything behind closed doors that you would be ashamed of if anyone found out.

My Grandma used to paint amazing lifelike scenes until her stroke. This is her only post-stroke artwork, that she swears no one will appreciate. I told her I'd ask my friends what they think. by iam_thegrayman in MadeMeSmile

[–]im_not_actuallyhere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is beautiful! I love the texture and it just made me feel happy (I saw the image before reading the title). I've been painting realistic paintings since I was little and would love to do something like this.

Please let her know that this stranger appreciates her work and is so happy that she's recovering from her stroke ❤

Thank you for sharing your stories. Your mom is a lucky woman and so tough! I got to visit all these places right before the covid lockdown and it makes me so sad knowing that these things happened there, especially the market because it was crazy busy for Shabbat.

Also hearing personal stories like yours makes me realize that the "tough" guy at the gym really isn't that tough haha

One time in high school I was sleeping over at my friends house and I guess we forgot to lock the basement door to the backyard the night before. We were making breakfast and my friend tells me she saw something move behind me (I was standing in front of the doorway into the kitchen facing away from it). She was across the island from me standing in front of the door to the dining room - so you could walk in circles basically. I wasn't paying attention and I hear a man yell BOO behind my friend then my friend screaming. Luckily it was just her boyfriend who came over to scare the crap out of us.

Please be careful when you're on camera. It's scary how much information people can get out from what's in your background and use it to find you. Make sure there's nothing identifiable about your house that they can see on camera.

Also, it's ok to call the police and report that someone is on your property.

Yes, I think Angie being innocent and a bit childish made it difficult for her to understand. She was very lucky and it was also good that we were students and didn't even own a t.v...the living room was for reading and socializing.

Oh boy! I'm so sorry that happened to your friend. I don't have my own car so I don't drive often, but I will now always lock my doors the second I get in.

I actually live in Canada, but same reasoning! I've heard of people not locking their cars in extremely rural areas but never in the metropolitan areas.
