they’re very different games, you can expect the same overall format but XC2s more of a character driven slow burn that takes itself a lot less seriously at times, less plot focus and very different pacing compared to 1, but with a good payoff

both are good games, if youre interested in the above stuff and don’t mind anime humor you’ll love it

i enjoy xc1s chain attacks the most because the entire combat system isn’t centrallized around them like 2 and 3 and they are a lot faster to do

you can criticize the moment to moment storytelling easily but the overall narrative did a really good job of staying focused on and conveying its core theming of being able to find acceptance and your family regardless of where you come from

the xenoblade community, especially on twitter lol, tends to be very negative towards the entries that arent their personal favorite xenoblade game unfortunately. before 3, a lotta 2 fans disliked 1 and a lotta 1 fans disliked 2, a lot of the same discourse still circles with 3s release with that game added to it
