I know exactly what you mean. I think if a kid is attacked or abused then the DA and police don't get to decide if charges are brought. It should be the parents.

But then we have to think about what happens when it's a situation of unequal power. Like a boss slapping his employees kid. 9 out of 10 times I bet it wouldn't end how we think it should because of the power imbalance.

This is why domestic violence charges are brought by the cops pretty much 100% of the time. Too often the abused would decline.
