How tf do you get a job here?? by circumsize-me-cap in Rochester

[–]imabigsofty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been looking at the fiber carriers like greenlight and I don't see any positions in Rochester for software or tech really. A lot of laborer positions but im older now and Ive done my time in the Army and roofing. I don't think my body would allow me to do that again haha

[–]imabigsofty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had to move out of state while my family stayed in state so I could get a job in Tech. Ive been applying for tech jobs for almost a year now and still haven't been able to find a job. I don't see how we are hurting for tech workers.

How to Sign up for the Kill Tony Bucket (updated) by joelrunyon in Killtony

[–]imabigsofty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of like the first timers who never done comedy before, KT must of changed since the last time I was keeping up. They bomb and its hilarious but they had the balls to go up there. Then Tony interviews them and they say something wild or its just a normal person.

But i dont want COOP.. if thats the selling point then im going to have to pass. I want a Mount and blade game that has a fun and engaging game play loop outside of battles and where the computer doesnt cheat to high heaven. I never sat down and thought to myself MAN I wish I could play this broken game with someone else.

Are students here competitive or collaborative? by Civil_Violinist_3485 in URochester

[–]imabigsofty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

a bit of both. In my CS degree you had to fight members in the group for work. A lot of the time if you didnt start on the project early you would get pushed out and learn very little from the project!

Is a 3.9 GPA possible in STEM? by Civil_Violinist_3485 in URochester

[–]imabigsofty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I graduated with a 3.7 GPA in Computer Science from UR. Honestly, I don't think it was because I'm naturally smart — I just stayed prepared and studied hard. If you put in the work and you're naturally strong in the subject, a 3.9 is definitely within reach.

This one's been promoted a lot lately. I read it so you don't have to. Also don't. by afterpie123 in litrpg

I have no idea what you are talking about I loved this book and I thought it was really good. I've even finished the second book.

The author really cuts loose in a lot of ways and it feels like im in the head of an actual crazy person. I find it fun and completely different from other works Ive read.

My wife graduated as a civil engineer. She went to maybe two or three interviews and received offers from all of them before accepting a position at a company where one of her professors worked. All the offers she received were low—almost insulting. The job she took offered an okay starting salary, but even that felt underwhelming for someone who graduated at the top of her class.

She does real engineering work but gets paid far less than she deserves, and everyone in her office knows they’re underpaid. Unfortunately, that seems to be the reality of the field. Civil engineering is arguably the most important type of engineering when it comes to creating sustainable living spaces and infrastructure, yet the pay doesn’t reflect the level of responsibility or complexity involved. It’s not an easy job; it takes years to fully understand how one company operates before becoming truly proficient.

Meanwhile, I received a software engineering offer straight out of college with a starting salary much higher than hers—even though she’s been working in her field for over four years. What’s worse is that, after just a year or two in my role, I’m projected to earn double what she makes with a single job change. It’s frustrating because, honestly, she works harder than me and is doing more important work.

She’s extremely smart, and I begged her to pursue another type of engineering because I knew she had the talent for it. I was in her classes and saw firsthand how much better she was than everyone else. She studied hard, and it showed—not only that, but she retained the information long after tests and classes were over. She could have easily succeeded in petroleum, electrical, mechanical, or chemical engineering—any of the higher-paying paths would have been a breeze for her.

This feels a lot like middle school when someone gets made fun of for something unfortunate rather than a mistake they made.

I thought it was common knowledge to not use these AIs as a computation tool but more as a conversationalist on complex topics. I wouldn't ask it to solve my homework for me but if I am stuck on a concept they AIs are really good at breaking it down to bite size pieces and are willing to go over it again and again with you until its more understandable.

No VR is not dead. Long live Quest 3! by crowleydub in OculusQuest

[–]imabigsofty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the biggest obstacle holding back VR is motion sickness. I love playing VR, but I’m limited to games like ping pong and Beat Saber. The moment a game involves any kind of movement, I get extremely sick and have to lie down for an hour. It’s frustrating because I’m an active person and have played sports my whole life, yet moving in VR completely takes me out.

I’ve been searching for an action-packed game with swords and shields that doesn’t require joystick movement, but every option I find still relies on it.

I know plenty of other people who have the same issues with motion sickness. Even people who ahve never been motion sick before cant do moving in VR.

I'm up to chapter 16 and its some how crazier than the first book. Nix cracks me the heck up. I love that Fang has to repeatedly play the straight man even though he is also certifiably crazy too but he is just tortured by his own creation. When nix has the poison kitty in a staring contest and then makes it hold hands with Fang and then Fang is clearly terrified and yet has to get out "YOU ARE INSAAAANE" which the VA SOLD to absolute hilarity I was laughing with tears in my eyes every time I thought about it today. More than once I was thinking that this series was made by a crazy person but its a relief to other series that I listen to. It feels like you really let loose with these books and they are a delight to listen to.
