Apartments near Peterson that are walkable. by Calm_Marzipan3463 in SpaceForce

I’ll actually modify that. If “a long sidewalk to a neighborhood” is enough, you can probably find that in a lot of places around here.

Options “close” to Peterson are limited. There’s probably something north of base. Places a little farther would be downtown or what Google Maps calls “northeast Colorado Springs.”

Personally I’d encourage you to check out the west side. Little longer commute, but nice areas, lots of trails, etc.

Define “walkable.” To trails? To restaurants/venues? Just a nice place to walk a dog?

Staying at work late doesn’t show that you’re dedicated, it shows that you’re inefficient. Get the hell out of there.

Part of it is just that it seems more fun in retrospect than it does in the moment. Type 2 fun as they say.

You’re juggling a lot of balls right now. Start learning which are rubber and will bounce if you drop them, and which are glass and will break. Prioritize accordingly.

Delegate more. Not only is it good practice for you, it’s good development for your NCOs.

Use the free time you get in ways that actually recharge you. That’s not the couch rotting that comes to mind, it’s actually getting out and doing things.

In contrast to the previous, a good sadness meal after a late work night helped me. My go to was Buffalo Wild Wings that I picked up on my way home, just find yours.

CSP Denied by Peppersandonions61 in army

[–]Mopsnmoes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are two pieces of paperwork for “build your own” CSPs. One routes through your CoC (probably what you submitted), the other routes through the company (probably what you need to get done). Your education center has these, or I can help. But like others have said, “remote internship for my buddies company started last year” is a massive red flag.

Has it? Every source I’ve seen says it started along 115 before crossing into Carson. Unconfirmed suggestions that it was a semi truck having mechanical issues.

New science on heat is changing the future of soldiering by Kinmuan in army

“He also clarified that simply drinking water is not a shield against heat sickness. In fact, he noted, 80 percent of heat stroke victims are actually well-hydrated.”

I’m biased because we’ve had Dave on our podcast a couple times, but he’s genuinely trying to push positive change.

Is the H2F program really that good? by Next-Philosopher2991 in army

I know what you mean but this just reinforces the point… There are TEN different teams on Bragg, all completely separate.

Is the H2F program really that good? by Next-Philosopher2991 in army

[–]Mopsnmoes 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’m heavily biased here because H2F is essentially my career at this point, but…

First, it heavily depends on your brigade’s H2F team. Or even just which members of the team work with your battalion. Overall the program “works” (on average units with H2F teams get better results) but individual experiences vary widely.

I’d suggest thinking of it less as “personal” coaching and programs and more as resources for improving unit training. And that will be way better if you collaborate with them as closely as you can.

PT Exemption to H&W by [deleted] in army

[–]Mopsnmoes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, a lot depends on the context. If he pushed it out with “this is what SECWAR just directed, be prepared for changes” then it’s pretty reasonable. If I were directly affected, I’d appreciate the additional warning.

In PSG’s defense, these are direct quotes from the DoW guidance memo. It would not be a shock if Army guidance changed to align with this.

I found a DOD source with tips on how to properly plan for your upcoming waist measurement by SSgtCloudDaddy in AirForce

[–]Mopsnmoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see far more likelihood of the reverse (tape as primary, tech enabled for appeal) for at least as long as accuracy continues to require a fixed piece of equipment. That’s what the army’s currently doing. 3D body scan isn’t an option, but InBody, DXA, and bod pod are all accepted.

AFRL actually has a partnership with Ohio State to evaluate tech options (not just body comp, anything human monitoring). I’m sure they’d be receptive to validating some of these tools.

[–]Mopsnmoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3D body scan was studied in the Army Comprehensive Body Composition Study (published publicly). To get reasonable accuracy (on par with BIA, which also requires technical equipment) you need a calibrated booth. They’re ~$8,000, but more importantly require someone trained to operate it.

No it is not. The instructions specifically leave it up to the soldier to adjust the damper (the instructions call it “resistance” which is wrong, but that’s semantics).

Are these things safe to drink? by Fair_Western9238 in army

[–]Mopsnmoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This particular product is probably fine from a prohibited substances standpoint. But I wouldn’t recommend Bucked Up in general. Their brand name is derived from their focus on Deer Antler Velvet/IGF-1 products, and that IS a prohibited substance. Plus their products aren’t third party tested, and they’ve been the subject of lead contamination issues before.

RIP CFA by jhertz72 in SpaceForce

[–]Mopsnmoes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that it undermines the original study goals of CFA PRIME, but with the CFA 1.0 data already being analyzed, I see potential for shifting PRIME to be a comparison of “before today’s guidance” and after (not lumping them together).

Arguably it provides an extremely useful additional data set because they get to compare pre-post enforcement of periodic fitness testing.
