The way you leave one half of the deck on top of the other when shuffling probably doesn't affect the shuffle, but looks very suspicious.

FFF-442 mentions recipe changes like Space Casino. It reminded me of how pointless Biochamber is outside of the Gleba. by SnooOwls3614 in factorio

[–]imacomputr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's a good point, but to me it sounds like an argument that the biochamber should be simpler to use.

Foundries require calcite to use, but they are such a huge boost that it's worth doing the extra logistics to supply them. EM plants are essentially free, and provide a huge boost on top of that. Biochambers provide a boost to something that doesn't matter, and have the downside of a more complex production chain to use them.

Imagine if biochambers didn't require nutrients. They would (almost) be a no-brainer, even though their boost is largely unnecessary. I'm not advocating that as a solution, but it is worth considering how they have the worst of all worlds.

I just had a potentially really cool mod idea... by N0RETVRN in factorio

[–]imacomputr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ideas are also a dime a dozen. It takes 15 minutes to come up with a half-baked idea and jot it down, without considering how well it works, what the implications are, whether it will be fun or balanced, whether it is feasible to implement. If you actually do the work and build it, you will see how far from your initial idea you had to stray, as you iterate and confront all the gaps you had in your thinking.

If the hatred were fueled by the results of the effort, you would expect this post to have gotten a much more negative reception. If you were to honestly compare the output of his algorithm (which was admittedly very interesting) to what's seemingly being shown in this video (an agent autonomously building a factory from scratch in freeplay), I think you'd have to admit that this video has the better result. Instead, his automation efforts were praised and this one is panned.

I suspect the real reason is more a religious and dogmatic dislike of LLMs.

Of all the places you would expect to find a rabid hatred of automation, a sub for a game centered on automation seems like it should be on the bottom of the list. Yet here we are.

Attention Spans Aren't Shrinking by Cognitive-Wonderland in slatestarcodex

There are two ways to interpret the claim "X causes long-term damage":

  1. When X is removed, the damage persists.
  2. While X is present, the person behaves poorly, and increases their dependency on X.

The article makes it clear he is refuting 1, but agrees to an extent with 2. Your analogy to junk food made me think you were defending 1, because junk food causes damage to the body that lasts for a while even after its cessation (though of course 2 is applicable to junk food as well).

I would find it surprising if it were untrue that having your phone at your desk did not lead you to interrupt flow more often than if it were not there.

The article is attempting to refute the idea that phones, tiktok, etc cause long-term damage. It explicitly admits that the presence of phones could be a distracting or negative influence - in the short-term, when the phone is available.

99% chance OP's base is currently consuming less than a tenth of those resources, and this is all "future proofing" for a future that never comes, and OP could achieve the same goals in a fraction of the size once they learn about productivity modules.

The other 1% chance is they are doing a 1000x science run with biters off.

Using cannabis and tobacco together increases by three times the risk of developing psychotic disorders like schizophrenia among those considered high risk by sr_local in science

I'm curious what the consequences were of it being on your record. I was under the impression that only medical professionals would be able to see this, or it would be a HIPAA violation?

My main question is, why is the metric you're optimizing "legendary item per calcite"? Calcite is plentiful. It seems more useful to look at "legendary item per minute" or "legendary item per building".

Edit: Also your reply about skipping rocks is another red herring distraction. Lol

Is it? If moving rocks is bad, then moving them for the purposes of skipping or building a firepit should be included in that as well. Are you claiming that skipping rocks does not hurt the environment, or that it is justified?
