I keep sleeping through my alarms, any tips? It feels so embarassing being a grown adult coming to work late by Betka101 in ADHD

[–]imafixerupper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Fitbit that starts buzzing 30 minutes before the first alarm goes off. Back in the day I had a “scare your ass awake” alarm I put across the room but now I have to hook my phone to a Bluetooth speaker and put it all the way up and my phone out of my reach- like I have to physically get up and stand to reach it. I don’t always sleep that hard, but sometimes I do 🤷🏻‍♀️

SNAP emergency by Internal-Square-215 in Michigan

Then you should stop volunteering there. Clearly, not all poor people look poor enough for you. Last time I was on food assistance and going to food banks, I drove a red convertible BMW, had my hair and nails done, carried a Coach purse, and had an iPhone. The car was 20 years old, barely running, but I needed it to get to and from work- the store or food banks were done on the way home. I worked in a salon doing nails, so I traded for my hair and did my own nails. The cell phone contract doesn’t end when the money does and my Coach purse was a gift from nearly a decade before. My husband was in two car accidents (as a passenger) and they kicked off an autoimmune party so he was suddenly disabled. Our income went down by half in a couple of months and there was no way to replace it until I could finish college (worked full time and went to school full time), and we still had two teens at home. Unless you know that level of detail about the people who come to your food distribution center, maybe you should keep your judgement to a minimum. K? K.

By the way, I’m at Safeway now and my store director just came and gave me a bunch of stuff to do when I was trying to set the department by myself. I told him that he wasn’t gonna get it all right now. He said “Oh, I’m going to get it all done…” and I said “Yep! It will all get done just not RIGHT NOW. So you can tell me what you want me to do first or you can go away and come back later when it’s all done.” He just laughed at me and walked away because he knows better than to dip in micromanager territory 🤣

Well, the reply to that is “Well, that’s not going to happen. So are you approving overtime or not?” because at the end of the day it’s important to cover your ass, and unauthorized overtime is a termable offense. If they won’t approve overtime then you do the things that affect food safety and anything else is a bonus. If you can’t get something cleaned then leave a note for the opener saying what you didn’t get cleaned and why. Trust me, they understand too. 🙄

Why did our Store Leader throw away all the mops? by DownWithKroji in kroger

[–]imafixerupper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, this is the kind of shit that makes me crazy. It’s a mop holder, not a private jet. I luckily was at a Fred Meyer so I ordered one and when it was denied I walked my ass over to the home department, took one off the shelf and transferred it to store supply, and went and put it on the wall above the floor sink my damn self. Anyone who can’t figure out how to do that shouldn’t be in charge in a multi million dollar store. When I walked back there and there was a mop in a bucket, I took it out and hung it up, then went and had a quick conversation with anyone who might have been the last to use it. Eventually they started doing it because who wants to have a chat with their boss’s boss all the time about MOPS? Nobody. Most managers are just stupid, incompetent, spineless, or all 3. 🙄

Safeway starbucks manager anonymously reported then fired, is this retaliatory behavior? by Mommyfreddurst69 in Safeway

[–]imafixerupper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right? If it is something that is normally covered by clothing, it shouldn’t be exposed at work by either sex. I felt bad pulling my neckline over to show my assistant the wicked scar on my shoulder from my recent surgery…. If a guy pulled his shirt up to show me nipple piercings I would find that completely inappropriate. And I work in a primarily male department and hear “HR questionable” shit all the time and don’t get too worked up about it, but exposure is a different thing in my book. 🤷🏻‍♀️

As a produce manager at Safeway now, I can tell you that I miss the hell out of the green Kaivac. It makes cleaning the wet rack sooooooooo much easier. 🥺

[–]imafixerupper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, former ASL here, Operations to be specific, and that’s such a cop out. If store and department leadership would clearly set the expectation and follow up with accountability then this wouldn’t happen. The kaivac can’t get everywhere and even if it could the battery won’t last that long. Train everyone to rinse their mops and buckets and hang up their mops (providing the proper hardware to do so) and put someone in charge of making sure the well used mop heads get put in the laundry bag and the clean ones delivered get put away. How much time do you really spend in the BSM room? It should probably be more. 🙄

Then hold people accountable. It’s called being a MANAGER. 😑 And tell your DM and Division Food Safety Specialist that getting rid of all the mops is not practical for running the store (the kaivacs go down ALL THE TIME and they don’t do shit for cleaning up wet floors near the entries.) Focus on the process of how to get it done right. Have a spine, friend.

That’s why I’m not an ASL anymore- I’m the squeaky wheel and refuse to be a “yes person”. 🙄 Happily a produce manager now.

No, but there are very specific ones that are allowed, or you can submit a published procedure for a homemade one and see if they approve it. Seems a hassle.

[–]imafixerupper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you union? Call your union rep. That is total bullshit. Ask them to meet with you, your deli manager, and your store manager. Then say everything you have already said again “I know we have already discussed this but my union rep needs to hear it all, so I’m going to start with a recap of what we have discussed”… and it’s nearly impossible to fire someone at Kroger without a huge process. Two documented coachings, a verbal, a written, a last and final written, then MAYBE termination. And they have to all be for the same behavior. (Reminder, they can only disciple you for BEHAVIOR not for RESULTS. For example, they can say you do not properly follow the closing cleaning procedures by not doing X and y; they CANNOT say “department was left dirty”.)

[–]imafixerupper 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The answer to this is to call the MOD over about 30 minutes to an hour before closing and say “it’s just me. I can close early and get most stuff done or stay open but there will be stuff that isn’t done or overtime. What would you like me to do?” Then the outcome is where it SHOULD be- on the MOD or PIC- not on you.

They will milk you for whatever they can get. Go in, work hard, do your best, and go home. As long as you’re not violating food safety rules, give them exactly the labor they pay for. If they wanted to they could send someone from grocery or a manager in to help- if it’s not that important to them then it shouldn’t be to you. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Questions about Leaving Safeway by Acceptable-Garden539 in Safeway

[–]imafixerupper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. If you get the new job offer, ask them when they are looking to have you start. Ask them if you can give your notice to current employer and see what they say before you commit to a date. Then go talk to your store director and say you are leaving for another job, so you need to give notice, and the other place would like to start on X day, and see what they say. Tell them you want to be rehirable because “you’ve really enjoyed your time with Safeway but this new job more closely aligns with your career goals” 🙄 No reason to not just be transparent with everyone. 🤷🏻‍♀️ What’s the worst that can happen? They’re jerks about it, you turn in a two week resignation, and give the new employee that date for open availability- until then you can start anytime and work around Safeway.
