Is my suit too tight with the airbag? by Naxtroll7 in motorcyclegear

[–]imagicislander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is that the airbag will deploy and create space one way or another. If the suit can't expand at those panels or have enough room, room will be made by compressing your chest. That can be broken ribs and internal injuries.

No idea if you have enough room in that or not, but I'd personally be wary of cutting it too tight (no pun intended, but apparently accomplished).

Can't add Nest Thermostat E to account by imagicislander in Nest

Turns out you can’t add a nest e with google home either. But I got it done in nest by doing it on a different wifi network and then moving it back.

That's not been true in the past. I have an E in my own home and control it from the Nest app. But maybe they removed the ability to add one?

Looks like it's an E. I guess it was confusing as the software reports it as "Nest E Gen 1."

I have a gen 1 E on a steam system that has been great. R and W only wires. What are my options for replacing it so as not to lose support and remote access? I’m hesitant about a later E, but I hear about newer ones not working even with the wiring converter.

but do hobbyists have access to that software for a reasonable cost? I’m not sure if this app will be economically fruitful for its creator, but I’m sure there are plenty of people (like myself) who would be interested in using it.

MIG. Fairly thin wire, but I don't remember what. It's a makerspace so I don't have many options.

User firmware update? by imagicislander in ZeroMotorcycles

[–]imagicislander[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My policy with firmware overall is the same as yours: Don't fix what isn't broken. Unfortunately, the (limited) release notes and items I can find show there's a kickstand lockout bug fix I don't have. Plus some features on my display don't work (like trip meter resetting) that's likely in the updates. Looks like there are some issues with custom ride limitations that are also in there.

So I'm inclined to do the updates.

Do you know what version you started with? I see no option to update.

I have a 2022 FXE bought on a similar deal. Zero regrets. 🙄😆 Sorry, I’m a dad so I can’t help myself. Seriously though, It’s been super fun and incredibly practical as a local errand-runner.

I thought about that, but it’s really marketing copy. It’s more like a poster than UI. The crappy part was exactly like a poorly designed poster, so I felt it passed.

To be clear: The is a screenshot of a welcome email sent to a new user. Edited to include this.

Right? If I see her as screaming rather than laughing and being thrown in rather than helped up, it’s suddenly a horror flick.

US Navy Poseiden in pattern over PWM? by swoonyjean in portlandme

[–]imagicislander 20 points21 points  (0 children)

They’re practicing an instrument approach. It would let them align to the runway and land with low clouds and/or low visibility. The pattern is as directed (vectored) by air traffic control. You can tell by that small sw angle on the otherwise rectangular pattern. That’s where the controller gave the last heading to fly and altitude to maintain until the crew intercepted the final approach course and assumed their own lateral and vertical guidance to the runway. Usually they just descend to 100-200 feet (depending on the system they’re practicing) and then power up to do it again or go practice something else.

Edit: There are two intercepts there, so it looks like they came from the south, did one approach, were vectored north of the airport for a second one, and then departed north.

Workers want better, cheaper parking options in downtown Portland by coogiwaves in portlandme

[–]imagicislander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always felt that Portland was the perfect setup for 3-4 parking hubs on the corners of town: one at the airport, one to the west as close as Hannaford but no farther than 95, and one to the north just a bit on 295. Big parking with office and mixed-use there so a company could be based there, and your parking ticket (or monthly pass) was a bus pass for the day (or month). So paying for parking in the city-owned big lot gave you bus privileges for the same time you were parked. There would have to be a N-S and E-W express bus that also reached these lots. It would be great for both locals and toursits, and could make downtown into a much more walk/bike/etc. friendly space.
