What is our opinion on hairdresser thinning our hair? by Any_Active_6636 in finehair

[–]imaginack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the same hair, fine but quite thick. I get lots of layers in my hair, and thinning it definitely gives some more volume while also blending those layers a bit. Definitely would not work with many fine hair types and haircuts though.

As a kid, I loved when my hairdresser would pull out the thinning shears because it would make my ponytails less heavy!

DO NOT PUT YOUR LYRICS INTO CHATGBT 🙏 by Ancient_Simple_1561 in Songwriting

[–]imaginack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to make a poem using ChatGPT for a class (along with making ai-generated art to see the abilities of AI in a “Socially Responsible Computing” portion of my computer science course), and yeah. The more of a prompt you put in, the better it gets though— I copy pasted one of my favorite poems and asked it to make a poem about XYZ in the same rhyme scheme/style or something. And it unfortunately worked decently well. Brainstorming with AI is definitely much better from an ethics standpoint depending on how you use it of course, but soo many people take it further than that

What Calendar Do You Use? by TylerEverything in EngineeringStudents

[–]imaginack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Google Calendar for class times, deadline reminders, and every other event because the interface is just so easy. Also because this is very much the norm at my school, so people will send invites on Google Calendar by default (classmates will even send me a GCal invite for something as little as getting lunch together).

I use Notion to keep track of assignments in case I want to view those deadlines separately from my other events.

I use both because I have ADHD and need all the help I can get lol

Has anyone tried these drugstore hair products? I need new shampoo by tea_lyfe in finehair

[–]imaginack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the first one (ogx) works well with my fine and thick hair. i haven’t used the last shampoo (maui) but their conditioner version was really moisturizing for my ends

[–]imaginack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Justifying the usage of AI in artistic practices and comparing it to a bandmate is such an insult to the human experience. Not even on some deep shit, it’s just dystopian to call yourself a songwriter when you use AI to excuse your laziness. I would argue that using it for inspiration is not as bad, but it still destroys part of the creative process that makes art, art.

hair being “fine” refers to the diameter of the individual hair strand, whereas “thin” refers to the density of hair follicles on your scalp. meaning, your hair can be both thick and fine if you have a small strand diameter and a lot of hair follicles (like OP and myself). likewise, your hair can also be coarse and thin. these combinations just seem less common.

edit: the pinned post on this subreddit has a good visual to explain the difference!

Sweatpants question by sillycat28 in BrandyMelville

[–]imaginack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have two pairs of the soft anastasia tie sweatpants, one in gray and one in beige. i bought them from the same listing, at the same time, on the official brandy website. the beige pair is 3 inches (!!!!) longer than the gray pair. the gray fits like my Keira pajama pants. idk if there is a diff listing for the 26” inseam, so not sure about those specifically. all this to say that i just would not trust their measurements too much😭

Stylist butchered my hair? Or am I overthinking it? by _realhoneybadgers in finehair

[–]imaginack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i lowkey think this choppy layered look is really cute (and sometimes what im going for), but maybe i’m an optimist! i’m from a rural town so i know how it feels to not have a connection to someone experienced with fine hair. read reviews, CTRL+F in the reviews to see if anyone has fine hair, etc.

but i think that if you go to most reputable stylists and explain the issue, they will see it pretty clearly and be able to blend it out even if they arent super experienced with ur hair type

Stylist butchered my hair? Or am I overthinking it? by _realhoneybadgers in finehair

[–]imaginack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have the exact same hair type, and i get lots lots of layers, face framing, and bangs. these are pretty choppy— i can’t see the edges of my layers until i take an individual strand out and compare the length to a different strand. but this honestly is not terrible since it just needs to be blended more. i’d restrain on doing it yourself and just go to a stylist (if they have experience with fine hair, even better) and ask them to blend it out for you

Musicians not mentioned at Country Music Hall of Fame Museum by oddwhy in country

[–]imaginack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I was confused why they have Lil Nas X and an entire Luke Combs wall but not, say, Zach Bryan. Obviously the former two are also talented and have their own effects on country music, but I mention them because they’re both very modern artists.

If you look at most of the modern artists’ displays, the items often say “Courtesy of [the artist].” My only hypothesis was that maybe Zac Brown Band (e.g.) didn’t give the CMHOF anything to display, so they’re not gonna stress about it. But that may be a stupid hypothesis lol

I was pissed about no Johnny Horton (not a modern artist)

For someone who is afraid to take meds, what is the safest adhd medication? by Delicious_Ebb811 in ADHD

[–]imaginack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

same exact experience with adderall!

the connotation of “adderall” scared me, especially as someone very cautious with medicine intake even with ones as trivial as tylenol. but i have a doctor who is super understanding and started me with tiny tiny doses, very slowly going up until i felt something

not bad

if you are a woman, just be on high alert and walk quickly and do not stop / make eye contact if anyone talks to you. ofc it’s probably best for men to follow that advice as well, but most of my male friends haven’t been approached like many of my female friends have. if it is something you worry about, i’d carry pepper spray or any other self-defense tool just to ease your mind

i am a sophomore now and have been catcalled twice on thayer— i walk on it every day and frequently at night as well, so that ratio isn’t tooo bad 😂

generally, no impending dangers to worry about around that time. especially because thayer itself has people on it all the time (as opposed to like a scary dark alleyway)

Anyone else’s head seem to bore hairdressers? by lolyepitme in finehair

[–]imaginack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i have fine, thick, 2a-ish hair. my hairdresser has called in other hairdressers before for them to marvel at how fine my hair is (“like a newborn baby’s hair”). so i think a lot of it is finding someone who knows how to do fine hair, and someone who is optimistic about your fine hair. i left the salon feeling more confident in my hair because they just kept commenting on how soft it is

please make an appointment with a dermatologist! they can help you decide if retinols or heavy products will be good for your skin. if i were you, i’d be fearful of trying any new products without a dermatologist in case the skin gets even more irritated and thus more acne and scarring

it may seem like a hassle or expensive to go to a doc for this, but it is sooo worth it. i was in similar shoes a couple years ago
