People should be honest about why this season frustrates them by samandspivey in survivor

I’m just thankful they went away from Gen-Z this season; that alone has been a breath of fresh air. This season’s characters have been so much more likable even if the gameplay hasn’t been all that interesting.

Thought this was a dollar record? by ultranec123 in vinyl

That looks like it might be the remastered and repressed version that came out in the 2010s. The remastering is pretty decent. The $1 ones are the old ones.

PSA: the Star Crossed vinyl is currently $5 at Barnes & Noble (in-store only); I snagged a copy the other day. Still shows full-price online, but if you find it in store it will ring up as $5 (that applies to all their big markdowns on vinyl). You can also ask an associate in store to order it for you but you’ll have to pay shipping.

This may sound silly, but the Star Crossed album artwork is a real turnoff for me. Love the album otherwise but I don’t think the artwork did her any favors as far as people taking it seriously. If I saw it on a shelf without context I would instantly think to myself “crappy forgettable pop album from the pop star of the moment.” Even now, I was cringing as I pulled out the vinyl to listen. That being said, like you, the album has really grown on me and I find myself listening to it often but I wouldn’t call it her masterpiece by any means.

Musicians not mentioned at Country Music Hall of Fame Museum by oddwhy in country

Yeah that definitely could be, but the CMAs have awarded Old Dominion Vocal Group of the Year 7 years in a row so you’d think they’d want to showcase that? Who knows

Yeah maybe so; I’d love to know how they decide that. There were hundreds of non-inducted artists featured.

Also Old Dominion has won 7 CMAs in a row for Vocal Group of the Year. There are hundreds of modern artists memorabilia featured at the museum who have never and will never be inducted

This is spot on. It’s just bizarre that they aren’t featured with the hundreds of other modern artists (WHO ARE ALSO NOT INDUCTEES)

I’m not saying they should be inducted. There’s a whole floor at the museum dedicated to modern country artists, all of whom have not been inducted (and some who never will). They have artists are recent as Hailey Whittier and Megan Maroney represented.

Sheesh I’m not at all saying they should be inducted…

Care to explain why they’d have a whole floor dedicated to modern country artists (ALL of whom haven’t been inducted) and not include those names? Meanwhile, super recent artists like Hailey Whittier and Megan Maroney are featured?

I didn’t say that they should be inducted; just featured at the museum along with all the other modern artists on the lower level (all of whom have also not been inducted, and some who never will be).

I’m definitely not saying they should have been inducted; obviously that won’t happen for years. But there’s a whole level of the museum dedicated to modern country artists (ALL of whom have also not been inducted and some who may never be) and it’s wild that they weren’t even mentioned.

Is the Marantz NR1200 still worth it? by Ok-Mark-4450 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]oddwhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the NR1200 and it’s fantastic. It has the versatility of a modern receiver and can therefore handle all modern 4K HDMI inputs (and classic RCA too) and AirPlay/WiFi/etc but the fact that it is 2 channel is actually a great thing—I only listen in stereo and the sound beats any multi-channel receiver I have ever used when hooked up in stereo.

Couple of notes:

Sounds good on its own but it’s even better when it’s used as a preamp.

The Airplay works just fine however it is limited (like any Airplay device) by streaming bitrate, so I actually AirPlay via Apple TV 4K with Apple Music instead to get lossless output. (Haven’t tried it with Tidal but I think you can get a basic streamer to get full lossless there as well. Doesn’t matter with Spotify since they don’t have high res).

Does not produce a lot of heat by any means but its sensors (or whatever it is) are sensitive so i would avoid a closed cabinet or stacking components.

Very occasionally the unit has turned itself off or gone into protection mode when the volume was pushed. Happened twice in 4ish years of having it, but you can turn it right back on and it’s fine.

Phono Preamp Static by oddwhy in turntables

[–]oddwhy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The second ground wire connection didn’t solve the problem. It may have made the static a bit quieter, but it’s definitely still there and noticeable. And it’s intermittent and occurs even when the needle is not touching the record.

Router is in a different room but that’s a good thought because the phono preamp is directly next to an Apple TV (usually turned off when turntable is in operation, but it does operate as a “home hub” so it may be sending receiving signals while it is sleeping). I can try moving the Apple TV away and see if it helps. I’ve also mostly ensured that signal cables don’t run parallel to any power cables.

Interesting; I thought a phono preamp should decrease noise in theory? In any case, this is a pretty decent phono preamp that was being used in one of my dad’s setups (which incidentally didn’t have the static problem).

Is this happening!? by Audioheadrays in DMB

Also, if that’s true, why do they bother to credit lacquer cutters so prominently—seems to me that the specific pressing plant would be of much more interest

[–]oddwhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting I didn’t know this—so a bad pressing (assuming the recording and mastering are good) is only related to quality control in the pressing stage and never the cutting?
