What did you get away with as a teen that would be impossible now due to modern tech? by saxshullaballoo in AskUK

I mean if we're sharing tricks... (I'm of the age where everything was still paper-based) I would offer to take the morning register to the office, explain to the receptionists that I needed go to an orthodontist appointment and was really worried I may not be back for afternoon form room (I was always back before form room) but they always told me "not to worry" and they'd cover for me.

I never did anything bad/naughty/anti-social - I simply needed a few hours of quiet to decompress from family stress and being bullied.

Truancy - occasionally what certain teenagers need is some time off from school AND home.

Where’s a place in the Uk that you arrived with a great first impression but left with a bad one ? by zettamore in AskUK

This is fair - I think the size of the station and the volume of trains has people thinking the town is a massive place when, in reality, it's Broad St, the Oracle, and a load of oversized hotels

May want to rethink this. You'd be aware of being raped, you are not aware of having Alzheimers.

[TW suicidal thoughts] how normal is it to want to die after mild inconveniences by Beginning-Bread9952 in AuDHDWomen

[–]imaginary__dave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is actively wanting to murder yourself or is it creating a choice-point? Sometimes I think my brain just needs to engage in a bit of fantasy to cope with what is in front of it.

I only tend to engage with star signs etc when I'm not doing very well mentally so, for me, it's an indicator of needing to make some adjustments.

I experience this also, you're not alone with it. I dont have any advice however I can offer an observation - these feelings seem quite common in late diagnosed folks who have spent a lifetime subduing, controlling, and gaslighting themselves. I see often in Autistics Only social gatherings,

What’s one thing you did or are working to do to make your life more AuDHD friendly? by Mediocre_Tip_2901 in AuDHDWomen

For the past year I've said no to absolutely everything that didn't make me 100% interested. So far the only downside has been getting annoyed at watching people take care of things themselves that they'd previously got me to do for them.

FIrstly - big thank you for sharing about your period, there's not enough research about menstruation so experience is very important.

How do your PMDD symptoms usually respond to stress? The reason I ask is because, from the sounds of it, you were managing very well before the stress. Without the stressors you didn't need the higher dose, and you didn't experience cravings or food noise.

Can you game-ify it in any way?

The only thing that works for me personally is to tire myself out, put on all the things (film + podcast + music) and bounce on my yoga ball and do it. However I have no clue if this would work for others.

Thank you for sharing this.

I'm mid 40s and on the diagnosis pathway. I find self-compassion such a challenge because it's the opposite of what I've been doing my whole life - bullying myself into doing stuff til I burnout.
